Mr GTR - why do you say you bumped the camera during the rootop shot ?
On your last one I would have let the exposure run a bit longer so the lights run right across the image, or crop it I guess, much like you have with taxi.
the first one has good DOF, and nice focus on Kims eyes, the third one is too busy, the background just gets in the way. Seeing what is in the background (and foreground) of your shot is just another one of those things you have to learn to think about as well as the actual subject and all the technical stuff.

Ditto. It's awesome to have a number of VERY talented (and friendly) photographers willing to criticise upbuildingly, and share some of their own pics.
Thumbs up to all of you guys! It's mostly because of the inspiration (a lot due to the cool photos you post) from you guys that I went out and bought a semi-pro camera.

I am looking at cameras at present but for the life of me cannot make up my mind. What did you settle on yourself?

I sifted through the DSLR section on trademe, ordering them by price. I then looked around the $500 mark, and asked a photographer uncle about what one to get. He advised me on a few, and then I showed VERT, and he said to get the one that Ive now got, a Canon EOS 10D. And it's swell!
The best thing to do is ask someone who knows.

I say I bumped it because if you look at the stars, they have a 'spike' in their trails. (you may not be able to see that with bad resolution ... )
