Hey photogs - anyone have any experience with the canon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS? For my 7dmk1... I may have just snagged a new job in a very picturesque locale, and am digging the one lens only idea... Chur!

Also looking at 24-70mm f/2.8L and the 24-105...

Sorry, I can't speak on the specific lens, BF, but at 300mm, you need all the light you can get. F/5.6 as a maximum aperture doesn't leave a lot of margin, although the IS would help somewhat. I use an EF300 2.8L IS, and it still has to be reasonably bright to keep the ISO down and have useable shutter speeds for anything moving.

If I was after a zoom telephoto, I'd probably go back to the 70-200 f/2.8, but get the IS model.

Cheers. After further reading and realising the price of the beast (and it is a long lens to be sure) - I am leaning more towards the 24-105 as more of a 'do as much reasonably well with one lens' lens. I am going to be doing a lot of flying in both wee planes and helicopters flying up and down river valleys counting fish. These valleys are home to the tallest mountains in BC, and a hell of a lot of Grizzly bears - and as it is not expressly a sightseeing mission, I want to just have the camera set up and not worry about changing glass. I have a 17-40 f/4, but I suspect that wont be sufficient for ursine subjects...
