couple of questions though..inzane whats the deal with the pedals on your ol skool DB..like what are they?

They are the original Time clipless pedals. I think these were probably out before Shimano spd's were even on the scene. I think these were Time EX's. I should take a couple of photos of these because I cannot find any on the internet...

Normal time clip on one side, the other side has a cleat type arrangement which means you can sit your foot on the pedal and it fits together so you have secure footing, but are not clipped in.

Have to use the specific shoe/pedal combo (the shoes are fantastic too. Purple, with a zip up the side so that they look like slippers). Designed because it was thought that there would be parts of mountain biking that were so extreme that you would want to be unclipped to ride, but still have secure footing on the pedal... :D
