So I'm making the switch from Zoom lenses to fixed primes... (about time)...
I have a 85mm f1.2L MkII, and seldom use the 16-25 f2.8L and 70-200mm f2.8L (non-IS) zooms that I bought thinking they would be the duck's nuts on full frame.
Were I to be rendered mono-lensular by a cruel and pinicky God, the 85mm f1.2L would satisfy me through my dying days.

As such a God has not yet played Its Hand, I guess I'll continue my accumulating ways, but primes (for a given quality) are, to me, more involving (particularly on the leg muscle front).

If I had spare 20 grand I'd buy the full set of L primes but alas, no such money exists in my deposits at this moment :(

20 grand wouldn't even get you close to a full set! A new 800 f5.6L would swallow that in one go. A second hand 1200 f5.6L would probably be a bargain at $125k thanks to the high dollar.

Well not those ones! Probably up to the 200 F1.8! Even then they'd have to be through some dodgy parallel importer on tardme :D

Would be impressed if you could find a 200 f1.8 - those things are like rocking horse poo.

On the plus side, i have the f2.8 and its crazy sharp and a beautiful lens

Can somebody explain to me why a camera like this can't work below 0˚C or higher than 40˚C?

It's not that they can't operate outside of 0 - 40ºC, but rather that battery performance becomes less stable. Those same operating recommendations apply to almost any electronic devices, but tend to be very conservative.

Don't worry about it, though, as Red cameras are tad too pricey for anyone likely to be in such peasant-like temperatures. They have nice modularity for people who can afford firkin expensive modules.

4-5 Years and hopefully I'll be rockin a Scarlet.

Frikkin expensive lens kits though, must be equivalent of L series or above, think its 30k for a 18-80 prime kit or something?

Crazy, but they're making the Scarlet with adaptors for Canon/nikon mounts so its ok.

In 4-5 years you likely as not won't need to.

5 years ago the state of the art for the average buyer was a mini DV cam that cost no small amount of money, now you can get infinitely better results with a $400 HD cam thats small enough you can actually build into a helmet if you do it right.
Give it 5 years, and everyone will be shooting 60fps full HD with much better sensors than we have now. (Here's hoping)

Sold my 24-70 on trademe, was working perfectly fine just had a little bit of dust (which he's fine with, you cant get a perfect lens on trademe 2nd hand).

The guy received it, and has emailed me saying it has a severe front focusing issue, worst at 70mm.

Now here's the confusing part.

It has worked perfectly for me, for the last 4 months, no issues with focusing or anything, and I've used it A LOT. But he wants me to arrange a fix through the warranty I had with the lens when I bought it brand new.

Now, does the manufacturers warranty cover the lens itself over the course of the warranty, no matter who owns it? Or does it only apply to me. If I DO get the lens repaired for him, under my warranty, while its in his possession, is that illegal? (fraud etc)

I'm thinking he might have ulterior motives in the form of wanting to get the dust removed, but I'm not really sure what I 'do' and 'don't' have to do.
