Very much so.

AFIK non of the non SLR's (apart from the sony a33,a55 ) can manage sustained high speed still shooting like an SLR can. Most SLR's can shoot at their max frame rate in jpg without limits now and can get 10-20+ frames of raw before slowing down.

Cheers for that comprehensive answer dude, from what you've stated it seems like choosing a camera really is a degree of comprimise but that said, If i can take shots like the following with my point and shoot, I'm sure a m4/3'ds will do a decent job.

They work sweet as, but give very solid vignetting.

scan of 35mm negs. testing oldish zeiss lens. good clarity contrast and colour rendition. as processed by lab onto CD, same as print, so whatever image processing they carry out as standard and believe me it's pretty basic ie an automated machine. the lens really is responsible for the colours here. (as compared with other lenses and film processed by same lab).

Is it possible to scan to RAW format? This may be a complete impossibility, but figure that the neg printing machines can carry out some sort of "processing" so might use RAW internally?

I am sure they can do whatever you want, I was just meaning I doubt that there would have been a person manually doing lots of colour balancing and all that, perhaps just monitoring and loading the machine.

I take my films to Wellington Photographic Supplies http://www.wps.net.nz/ their scans to CD come as jpg but there would of course be intermediate steps. There is a general sort of options list on the website http://www.wps.net.nz/lab-services/ but not a price list. The price list is an in-store pamphlet. Give 'em a call they're really good.

Thanks PF - I've had nothing but good experiences with WPS before so will give them a shout.
These photos will require quite a bit of localised tweaking so would prefer to fiddle them at my leisure in lightroom.

Yeah I went up for it last year before nationals started, great exhibition. Awesome looking at the simple wee Liecas he used compared to the big 1Ds and 5Ds we have now

Well since it started pouring down, I decided I'll do something productive with my time. Just taken with my 18-55mm lens.
Any suggestions as to how I could improve would be great.
