Windows 10: Who's Running It?

Postby Scotty on Fri 31/Jul/15 6:39am

I has system tray icon saying upgrade!
I has background downloaded files...
I has spent a couple of hours waiting on 1 update of 1 to do its thing...

...I has no Windows 10. :(

Trying to figure out if it's worth the time downloading the ISO and doing it all manually. My life has come to this, being excited about a new operating system.

For those of you using it, how's it going?

I'm waiting a few weeks before I try it.

I'm waiting a little bit for it to shake out, will do a clean reinstall with an SSD in a few months. Everything looks good so far, all the games I play have no issues and a few of them run better.

What kind of person saves porn anyway? That's what unlimited broadband packages are there for.

Saving porn will always invariably lead to an awkward conversation with the missus (or kids).

I tried an upgrade but the thing bugs out and just has a message that says "Something happened." And a close button.

No you stupid computer, nothing happened. The something that was supposed to happen was windows 10.

I fixed that for you.

I thought about installing it, but I went riding and had a beer instead.

I was hoping to chuck it on the laptop to see how it goes. Keep the desktop on 7 where I need to get real work done.

I am, from a fresh install (my laptop has twin drives)

Be rude not to, full MSDN subscription, and a sometimes presenter of all things good and Microsoft.

ANYWAY.... as always, seems there is a wee bug with things.

Scotty, see if this link provides useful answers?

Have a gander at the link I posted.. .speaks to that thing.

Long story short, change your regional settings to US, then try again. What a fark up. Nevermind though. It's a big improvement on 8.1 anyway. . . (that's what we're supposed to say, but I guess it all depends on how you use your computer?)

I want to know how it will run on a 2010 laptop 4GB memory. Has Win 7 32 bit now.

Also, can anyone recommend a free hard disk copier that works sector by sector? Easus partition mgr and ToDo Backup don't seem to do it. It's for a HP laptop, copying the factory partition doesn't otherwise work because it uses a custom MBR. Linux dd works but I'm resisting Linux.

FWIW, as you're running 32 bit on 4GB, I would personally back all your user data across to a portable hard drive, and restart, blowing away everything (including all the recovery HP partitions) and start again from scratch. Your computer will thank you for it and run faster.

My work laptop, 2 years old, SSD and spindle. HP.
My home laptop, 6 years old, spindle. HP.

I have HP apps on either, and I use the Microsoft backup and reset tools via 10 (was using 8.1 on both) instead of the recovery tools.
