Re: Where Did You Ride Today?

Apart from some tree pruning/eed weeting prior to the Dirt Merchants race, there has been no recent work on the BE tread that I know of. I was up there a week ago and everything is just plain old weathering and wear and tear. Especially south of the grassy knoll.

Edit - Actually, I was up there on Tuesday night after 9 and rode from the pillbox south. No, not seen any new work. Someone was up there with a tripod taking night pix of the stars (presumably) probably wrecked that with my lights on full...

WooT!

A fun wee night ride just done. Amazing how well Makara holds up to a dose of rain.

I got out yesterday arvo with a few others, and rode a cruisy pace up Transient, Sawmill, Windmill and CPX. From there we rolled down (and back up) the back of Wrights Hill, and cruised down Salvation, finishing with a lower loop at Makara.

Lovely to get out, for my longest ride in a while - 2.5 hours by the time I returned to the office!

Sweet ride out to the beach this weekend.

Not sure I believe that it got up to 27degrees, but a beautiful day all the same.

You should be more impressed that my heart rate goes down whilst climbing. :o

Regrettably these heart rates are not a reflection of reality. Garmin Connect must make some (rather dumb) assumptions about heart rates when it is not supplied with actual values.

Looks like I missed out on a great ride, 32*C !!! Summer must be here...

On another note:

Took the fixie out today for it's maiden voyage........... Note to ones self ; do not use track bike on road ... no brakes and big ugly truck suddenly stopping in front of you = :o  , but ended in :D  after some radical maneuvers through a work site :paranoid: . Back pedaling isn't as effective as I remember it

I was up in Nelson over easter weekend so decided to give Sunshine into Peaking another run through. Last time I rode it was the most fun I'd ever had on a bike, but I wasn't sure if it was because it's a truly great route or because i was just in a good mood. I've confirmed that it's a frikken great ride! 10/10 for the second time. Took the wrong route up the start of peaking so it involved bikes on backs and an overgrown trail (and my less fortunate friend getting attacked by angry wasps  ) but once we got rolling it was just the best.

I took a couple who hadn't ridden it before. Both were grinning ear to ear along the whole of Sunshine Ridge, and down Peaking he was absolutely frothing while she was thinking it was a little steep in places but enjoyed it overall. She's a boss though and rode everything apart from the initial rooty chute and the skinny drop.

We took our time, stopped a bunch, had a swim in the river. Nelson is badass.

Thats a big old ride!

Went to cragiburn on sunday, first time I've been there in prob over a year (had a big stack last time :paranoid: ) and oh maing I love the luge so much. So awesome having one long decent on such a rad surface. Was perfect conditions with no muddy bits anywhere and only some slight bogging down by the midtrack fap bench.

My lack of riding the last few months really showed, I'm still pretty sore in a few spots

Did a few rides around the central platau over the easter weekend (nothing serious, but my poor legs aren't use to repeat abuse!). Tree trunk gorge loop, Old Coach Rd (Horopito-Ohakune) there and back (in the rain! was quite fun actually), couple of loops out behind Rangataua, and the Martin Sash and Door loop behind National Park.

If any of you are Alan/Allen from Wellington that took me and my bud for a ride out Rangataua ways, cheers!

It's fairly big yeah, but the climb is so gradual and heaps of ks are just spinning so it's pretty easy going. The vertical is vastly overestimated in strava too, probably closer to 1000m rather than 2000. The actual mountain biking part only really happens on the straight section at the bottom of the circuit, the rest could be done on a CX bike. I think next time I do it (because there will be a next time) I'll tack 629 on to the end of it. Distance will be pretty similar but there will be another 400m vert and another huge, epic downhill. Or up to fringe hill and do black diamond first. Or both. This guy has it figured out: http://www.strava.com/activities/205794262

The luge is freakin great but I've ridden it too much and spoiled it for myself a little. Last time I was out there I didn't even ride it

Being the last weekend of the worsleys pirate trail network, I got some riding in. It was nice to KOM "Worsleys DH" on the last run of the last day. Unless someone is naughty that might stick around for a while :D

I saw you for a brief second but didn't have time to yell out. Super busy! And everyone was stoked to be there apart from that one guy on the GT.
