Marcus and i headed around Snakes n Ladders, The Third Place (avoiding the wet wood work) then until The Green Mile for some sweet trail riding. TGM was super dry under the trees and riding really well. hoping to get a second go at the lot tomorrow after trail work session.

Did the 42nd today. Great day for riding, nice and cool and track still damp and plenty of grip. If you haven't riden it before please do so, it's worth it. Drop us a line if you do as I am a local and always keen for a blast through.

I rode the the new trail out Colsen Road yesterday and was impressed with the amount of work put in

Unfortunately the dump next door still made it's presence felt in certain places though :(

Up Transient (Pohill Aro Valley) then up the road and down Planet Ride. In retrospect should have just ridden back down Transient. This is an awesome track, well done. Planet Ride was a bit overgrown with gorse and other scratchies, so not as much fun as it could have been. Can't wait to head back and ride down Transient!

Spent a few hours with my head in the clouds today. After the rain stopped it was a pretty decent day for a ride - loving the calm for a change.

Headed from home in Petone into town and up to the Skyline track, along to Makara up Zacs etc, down ridgeline to the car park for a jam sandwich. Then up Salvation and down Scout Hall and Goldmine (I have 660mm bars and am pretty sure those 2 narrow trees on Goldmine are 661mm apart). Then up Fenceline and Highbury Fling for the first time - nice work to those that built this one - and up to Hawkins Hill. Down to Redrocks and back around to the Tip Track. Hitting the Tip Track after almost 4hrs riding is a bit ouchy. Finally down Car Parts and Backdoor where I ended up while looking for that Transient track. Will have to get that one next time. Back home on the road.

Hey Spanner next time your ride up Transient and then to Planet Ride, look for a new track just before you go off the road by the 4wd drive track that leads to planet ride. This is Highbury Fling a legal mtb track -it stil needs some work but is worth checking out. We have just started digging the third stage of Transient, this will connect it to Planet Ride and Highbury Fling.

Did a fantastic ride with the Stickbug this morning: despite the dark, pendulous clouds and the blustery winds, we headed up Parkvale Rd to the Skyline, south to the Makara Rd saddle, up Varleys and the 4WD to North Face.

Down North Face, left on Allington connector, right into Smokin', left down the AMP connector, right onto Rimu (love those switchbacks, they have none of the engineering of NF & Smokin so you really have to ride through them! ), down Rimu and out on the Snakecharmer 4WD. Up Snakecharmer, left on Big Tom, down SWIGG - sharp right at the end of SWIGG - UP the 4WD track to where it comes out by Magic Carpet; around Magic Carpet and down the "Easy" path to the 4WD.

Back along the 4WD to Sally Alley, up Sally Alley, down Missing Link, up Aratihi to the LL turnoff. Along Upper leaping Lizard, sharp right at the end and up the 4WD to the summit. Wind blowing like a bastard, clothes all sweaty, chill factor soaring so we stopped to put our jackets on. Down the first part of Zacs and up the steep thing to come out by North Face.

That loop was quite a bit longer than we thought it would be so no time to do it again, just back down the 4WD, down Varleys and back along the Skyline track to Parkvale. A very pleasant 25km in a very leisurely 2:15.

Only saw 7 other riders out today, but it was perfect conditions for riding - the tracks were all moist enough that the dust has settled back into dirt, but they are dry enough that they are hard, no mud, no slipping wheels. North Face is getting a bit rutted already on the switchbacks, looks like people lock up their back wheels to slide around them (Lewis - you better get another brake for your front wheel!! :p )

Every time I ride in Makara I'm amazed at what a fantastic facility we have - so many tracks to ride, so many interesting ways to combine them. Upper Leaping Lizard has now been trimmed so the steep descending bit is really fun - you can see exactly where the track is, no more peering through the grass and barberry hoping your wheel finds solid ground. Also the switchbacks on Skyline (just north of the pines) have been cleaned up so they are fast riding as well. Good stuff.

Did my first night ride tonight - my bike's been at the Bike Hutt, and Mike kindly offered to bring it back to me by way of meeting for a night ride. He lent me a light, like a pusher offering the first hit free, and we rode at Wainui with a regular Bike Hutt group. We rode down Labyrinth and Snails, a play on the super-steep firebreaks, then up Jungle Gym. Most of the group went off to ride Spoonhill, but I piked on that. I was running out of energy after not having enough to eat and starting to ride like a mong, and I find Spoonhill/491 tough enough in the light and dry, so at night, hungry and after some light rain I left it for another time.

There will be another time - I came home to find I'd sold my windtrainer on Trademe, so I can buy a light.

Night riding is cool. It took me a while to get used to the trees disappearing as they entered what would have been my peripheral vision, but after a while I adapted to the tunnel vision effect and managed to stop expecting to hit one. Next time I'll have some more afternoon tea!

Nice one - I piked at the same time as you, also to dash home and fill the tank. Get that light. Night riding is awesome. Where there are no trees flashing by riding somewhere open like the Tip Track I get kind of an odd sensation of the huge black void outside your little bubble of light

Up Transient (nice track, first time I've ridden it, will be great when it's done as I could concievably ride from Mt Vic to Makara peak barely touching tarmac...) then up Karepa/Ashton Fitchett and up the connector to Fenceline, up Fenceline to the wind turbine (ugh), round the Fenceline to Wrights Hill (more ugh, I'll clean all those uphills one day...), down a very moist Scout Hall (skidzzz :D ) and along to Makara Peak, stopping off at the dairy on the way for a banana, quick blat up Koru and down Swigg/Starfish then home. Good fun. No rain, barely any wind. Nice day to spend an afternoon.

To wachtourak, hopefully we will be able to get rid of one of your (ugh)'s. Once we have finished Transient and grade reversed/widened Highbury Fling the plan from a certain trail digger I know is a new single track that will make your first ugh a option to miss.
