Went to Vegas for my once-a-month treat, Saturday night ride. Rode Tuhoto Ariki, after reading something that pbr and musket wrote here a couple of weeks ago. And it really is riding hell sweet. Definitely the closest I have ever come to cleaning it, although a few dabs, and a few fuck-ups, but the most fun I have had on a mtb in ages.

Tahoto Aoraki is awesomely dry at the moment!

I have never ridden it in the dry before!

hit the sandpit today with a noob... my dad, got him into road riding last year as a way of working on his fitness, one day in the forest and he's hooked. kinda forgot he was a keen motorcyclist in his youth, he's got some pretty good skills still.

Not today, but rode Makara, carpark to summit then T3, Vertigo, back up, Trickles, then Swigg/starfish, t'other day.

Had a wee tumble on T3 and skewered my face on a broken branch (not too badly) but the snappage left a big smear on my riding glass lenses, if I hadn't been wearing them I'd have had a shishkeeyeball. It was my good eye too, I'd have been qualified for a white cane and the special olympics without eye protection.

Talked JaredTheAmazing in to doing a lap of Karapoti of sorts with me today and we managed to bump in to Kah and friend a number of times as well as plenty of other riders :)

The riding was good, I cleared the warmup climb and deadwood wasn't too bad either. These along with the Rock Garden have become way easier so combined with good conditions the race in March should see some good times.

The devils staircase was as bad as ever but the rest of the climb up Titi was pretty straight forward, except that is where I got the first of my pinch flats.

We the took a deviation down Boobies which is still heaps of fun. The ride round to the bottom of Dopers was uneventful but then changing down at the base of dopers all hell broke lose leading to a rather bent derailer hanger. After some major retuning I felt safe to carry on, but all motivation was gone by now so it was a hard slog up Dopers. Riding down from the top of dopers I got hit by pinch flat #2.

We turned off on to baby pram despite the issue I'd been having only to have another major meltdown that this time lead the derailer hanger snapping so emergency single speeding maintenance was in order as no spare derailer hanger was on hand. We made it down, although neither of us was willing to take on Dave's too scared...

Finally in the gorge Jared had his first problem, a pinch flat which was quickly fixed. It was at that point I noticed my 3rd flat, this a slow leak which required 2 stops along the way to pump up.

A trying but enjoyable day, the beer at the Tot tasted very nice afterwards.

Back to work tomorrow :(

I also headed out to Karapoti for a wee look. It's riding very well, nice and dry and very fast. I thought the staircase was in excellent nick, same with dopers and of course the newly graded warm-up and deadwood.

Headed up makara today. Up makara hill road, onto varleys and up T3, then down T3 and back up the 4wd track to the top, then down ridgeline, ridgeline ext, big tom's wheelie, swigg and out starfish. Then we rode to the top of makara hill road and into Karori park, in there we road the '93 downhill track and also had a go on the pump track. It was such a nice day until 4:30 when the wind picked up which spoiled a near perfect day which was a shame!

Not so cheeky - it's a legitimate question, isn't it? The same as wanting to know what Roadworks is, I would have thought. :eh:
