Wow the movie section is sort of dead! Whats going on?

Anyone seen the (2010) The Mechanic? Great movie I recommend it.

So did they actually make a movie called "World invasion: battle las angeles" or is it all a big joke? Is that the best they could come up with? The actual movie must be awful....

I got the impression that it was funded by the US army. The aliens reminded me of the hamburgler :lol:

Last 3 I watched

1. Memento
2. Requiem for a dream
3. The Mechanic

Thought The Mechanic was pretty good actually, Jason Statham is badass.

As FF said - once the kids come along it's hard to find the money or the time for going to the movies - but it's no big sacrifice to wait 6 months and watch it on DVD at home. I've been watching intellectual stuff with my kids this week:
- Merchant of Venice (lots of cross-dressing and sexual innuendo while putting the wicked Jews in their place);
- Scott Pilgrim (lots of LOLZ, indie music and gratuitous violence);
- some other lame movie about a guy who's a retired CIA agent but didn't tell his wife, then she finds out 3 years later when her dad sets his hired killers onto the son in law. As predicatable as a Statham movie, but without Statham's humour and subtlety, sadly.

Watched Kick-ass with the missus, she said it wasn't suitable for the kids so they missed out. That little girl with the kung fu moves is awesome, she's like a rabid hobbit.

Last weekend at the NZSS MTB champs I watched a bunch of movies with my daughter:
- Grease - how many cliches can you fit into one movie? and wasn't Travolta skinny!;
- I Robot - "A-choo" "Are you alright" "I'm allergic to bullshit";
- Troy - Hannah almost cried for Hector when Brad Pitt read him his obituary;
- Red Heat (Big Arnie as a Soviet police inspector);

- and I did just sit up watching The World is Not Enough this evening because the cricket was too boring.

Sounds like a real tear-jerker, probably better than anything I've watched. Maggie Gyllenhall always adds something to the movies she's in: I can't decide if she's hot or just strange ... but at least she looks like a real person, not a surgically rebuilt clone. And she can act.
