Wednesday Work Parties On The New Polhill Tracks. Aro Valley

Postby gunslinger on Wed 9/Sep/09 9:48am

Hi Guys

Heading up there today around 11.30ish until 2.30ish. Tools provided.

Meet at the small park at the top of Aro Valley, or just follow the track at the back of the valley up (there is orange flagging tape to follow). Come up the steep slope with dodgy ice climbing steps cut into it until you get to a pine tree, turn right and you will see a newly built single track, walk along this until you find us, pick up a tool from the pile on your way.

See you there.

Are these going to be a regular feature? I need to dig and build more often
I work shifts so weekends off are rare, that means I can't pay much homage to the trail gods and as a consequence keep injuring myself.

Yep. Every wednesday unless particuarly bad weather. Will be a long build as there's approx 200 metres vertical climbing.
Aim is a two way grade 3 track from Aro Valley to Ashton Fitchett drive.

A good dig day today, thanks heaps to Andy, Andrew, Muzz, Craig, Ian and Kevin. Some photos.

What's the gradient you're aiming for - average and maximum?

Thanks heaps for the work today by the team from BNZ. Another 100 metres done, and 40 more prepared.
Re overall grade, 5-6 degrees with an absolute max of 10.
The track will be a lot of work but we feel it fills a key role by enabling a non tarmac route from town centre to and from makara. And once barking emu is finished there will be nearly continuous single track to/from the top of the tip track.

Is that degrees or percent?
10 degrees of climbing, even for a short while will be a heartbreaker :eh:

Well, it would break mine

Great work guys, the trail looks inviting already!

Hi Guys

Weather is a bit off today for a work party.

Jonathan and I will not be there today as a result, there may be other hardy souls that brave the wet, slippery, muddy conditions, good luck to them.

Thinking of going and doing a few hours Fri lunch. Anyone else planning on going?
Weather sounds a bit 50/50
