Top effort Revolve. The expanded regular Wed crew did the full bench of about 20m - another epic effort. Hopefully WCC will get us some more tools. We are almost directly below the big pine tree on Karepa St - where there are no houses. Have also done lots of exploring to figure out how the track will link up with Planet Ride - stay tuned.

Hi all

There's a workparty on Highbury Fling tomorrow from 9am to 3.30ish. Mtg at south end of track (Ashton Fitchet end). The aim is to get as much of the south end of the track re-benched as possible - so it packs down and is ready for gravelling in autumn/winter. Come along any time to help. Some of the tools from Transient will be relocated for the day so it would be better if you came to Fling - Jonathan has promised huge quantities of pineapple lumps!

Hey Guys - Whats the deal with access in Polhill? I rode up transient today - clearly signposted as a bike track, then up ashton fitchett, highbury fling and then down (I think) Planet Ride - however at the bottom I saw a big sign saying no bikes in the reserve?

As far as I'm aware, almost all of the tracks through the area are open to mountain biking, with the exception of some of the lower section of Planet Ride - hence the sign posted at the bottom. It's been a while since I've been along digging on Transient, but I believe the plan is to connect it up with the Planet Ride further up the hill - avoiding the landowner/landowners(?) who isn't/aren't fans of bikes cutting through their property.

OK cool - so if you head down planet ride, is there somewhere you should escape it to avoid the dodgy section?

LoL - you've got it around the wrong way. With the exception of the new ones being built they are actually all CLOSED

Planet ride is totally closed to riding because of the bit at the bottom, it is not just the bit at the bottom that is closed.

The track down from George Denton (sometimes called Rooty) is closed and has a little sign there. It might get upgraded in the future but that whole area is a powder keg of shitty, nasty neighbours and if you ride the closed trails here you're shitting on the efforts of the council staff to improve access for Mountain bikers.

To get the official list of closed tracks look in the Tracks policy, under Schedule A:

http://www.wellington.govt.nz/search/?c ... ackrec.pdf

It lists the following areas as closed:

Polhill Reserve, Aro Valley (the exception is the new tracks)
Waimapihi Reserve (apart from a new proposed track between the wind turbine and Aro Street)

Give us to the end of summer (at my guess) and Transient should be conneted up in some shape and form to Planet Ride, then to Highbury Fling.
Planet Ride will need some tinkering but you will then be able to ride up/down legally to Aro valley. What will happen to the rest of Planet Ride- south of the junction is still ongoing.

And yep, please don't ride Planet ride, I see people riding it fast all the time, mountainbiking has made awesome progress for access in Wellington, this behaviour threatens that
