Wow, looking good Kev! Lucky with the weather to...
So next is the retaining on Transient, and then the next bit up from Karepa?

Yeah. Nice work kev. I didn't manage to make it out - work meetings all through the day. Are the tools still up on the track? I hope to spend an hour or so over the weekend doing a bit of a tickle...

I'll put the tools back saturday morning, in one of the old spots by the swtichback that we havn't finished yet. Jonathan said the boundary with private land has been pegged but he is yet to see it. So no new digging as we don't know if we will dig from the unfinished switchback south or from the sharp turn that leads to kerepa st south.cheers

Digging tomorrow from 1230, on the piece between 4wd track and kerepa st, hopefully heading south.

Digging on again from 1230 tomorrow. Thx to steve and one other -alas name forgotten- who turned up last week to help the regulars. Plan tomorrow is to fill in the soil on the switchback, and if we finish that, build a bit more new track. Were onto the last stage of Transient, and at a big guess, its about 1 k up the valley to Planet RIde.

I know it's a bit precipitous today, but is there anything happening trail building-wise today?

Yep I'll be there unless it buckets down. Will start at the 3rd to top switchback (the one with the retaining wall).

Well, that was a bit damp, but the 4 of us (craig, sam(?), Al and me) sorted out the 3rd switchback from karepa street. It's now wider, with a bit of a berm on the outside, and the height loss is a bunch less.

Muddy work; I thought my shoes were cleaned, but I left muddy footprints across the office when I got back to work...

That'd make you a popular man.

I went down the track yesterday, and it's running bloody well - the highest/newest part was a little different from when I crawled through the gorse to find a lost GPS a few months ago - I have to say the bumps work quite well (I assume a particular person is still in charge of them - otherwise there's some nice natural 'features' through there).

Hopefully I'll be able to get along and help a bit in a few weeks once the uni semester finishes.

Same here. Looking forward to it.
Track is awesome, took a friend up it and Highbury Fling on Sunday, along with the carparts collection.
He loved it. Me... good, but have now got a singlespeed so that little bit harder up past the windmill.

...I managed to scuff out the muddy footprints before the non-MTB'ing principal came back into the office ;)

Yeah - I thought that the "fun grade reversals" worked rather well on my ride down this afternoon. I think that some of them could be shifted a bit to aid with flow, but generally they were all rather nicely poppable.

I'm planning on being there today - rain radar looks OK. The new track build location is up the valley from the highest switchback (closest to Karepa) and is reasonably well hidden. I plan to tickle up the existing track as per Jonos last post. If anyone rides past then I'll head up to where the track benching is.

I couldn't make the dig again today but good to see that last week Sam returned, Jono made an appearance and Andy and Andrew will turn up when they get less busy. Certainly more the merrier and its even worth putting up with I need-to-be-so-strong-getting-stronger-man-I'm-tough-as-a-single-speeder-in-wellington talk from Andrew. Only about 70 meters of the new track has been built but I think it could be the best of all as the gradient isn't too steep (thanks to Jonathan K) leading to lots of ups/downs. We are just about to cross a small stream and then dig through an old dump with lots of car tyres/junk etc we hope can be incoporated into the track. And also, if you haven't noticed, it rained slightly, making for good digging conditions. Back next wednesday.
