Unusual Cars Mkii Gti

Right then.

Seeing as one of my favourite threads on the whole site was destroyed by a pissing contest, shall we try again?

Let's try to keep it civil this time, shall we?

Now, we were discussing Ford killing off the Falcon. How many thousands of AUS/NZ customers will they lose if that happens? And if god forbid, it does, surely it won't be replaced by the bloody Taurus??

I was watching TVNZ 6 last night (yay freeview) and on Beyond Tomorrow they had a segment on this car: the Magna Steyr MILA concept.

Looks like fun. runs on CNG, but the concept was rather underpwoered. 1.6 litre car engine, 0-60 in 5 seconds.

Needs a proper motor: Turbo Busa or one of those Caterham V8's Well cool though

Taurus seems OK, just ridiculously heavy for some reason which can't be good. The Mondeo is basically as big as a Falcon now, in fact the wheelbase and track are actually bigger.
Put a 3 litre-ish turbo in it and call it a Falcon, no-one would know.

People don't actually seem to tow heavy stuff with Falcons or Commodores, they use SUVs as far as I can tell so RWD is a crock for all apart from the performance models. For that bring in the Mustang, problem sorted.

There you go Mr Ford my consultancy invoice is in the mail :)

Back in the late 90's Street Machine mag ran a campaign called 308 'till 98. Apparently it made Holden keep the 308 on a bit longer. Maybe they can do the same for the 'coon.

What will happen to Bathurst? Return of the Skyline perhaps?

Really? i read somewhere that the americans are contemplating replacing the crown Victoria with the falcon. seems stupid, the falcon is something like the second biggest selling car in all of Australasia for the last 1000 years.

Roll it back a further decade - it was 1984 when the v8's till 98 thing kicked off. Outside of the HDT Commodores the 308 and 253 v8's were horrible. My reference books are in storage but the 308 was pushing out approx 120kw in stock form. Should have been killed off then... At least they developed some fuel injection to go on the plastic pig VL and give it a few more kw

The Falcon's had their own v8 killed off in 1982 with the last of the Clevelands - I had one of the last XE v8's and it was a sweet car. Perhaps the era of the local car has passed us and the world car with local styling hints will be the meat and potatoes of the future.
