well here is phase 1 of the operation. this is quite an old bike. I bought it new in 1995, its a chromoly frame that was initially full rigid. I added the forks in 1998, although they have to be the worst part on the bike presently, I think they were the worst forks RST ever made. it used to have cantilever brakes but thanks to motobouy and PBR i have just put the avid V-brakes on. I say its phase 1 because it still has the 7-speed cassette on the back and the 3 chain-ring on the front, both of which cant be split because they are both so budget, alivio I think. Took it for a ride at redwoods on saturday, went much better than I thought it would (at least I did), A-trail, tickler, BRN2 etc all fine, no walking, I now see why singlespeeding is addictive, I like it a lot

Henry Dorset Case wrote:OK here are a couple of pix of the work commuter bike. Its a diamondback voyager frame, painted flat black (professionally...it looked really really good when done) and has held up pretty good since then. the theme was back in black, kinda... its comfortable, quick, and (I think) cool.... Ive been riding it for a couple of years in this format. The blingest bit on it is the FSA Carbon Pro crankset. the big ring is integral with the spider... very cool bit of kit.

I have a thing for the lines of "Schwinn style" cantilever cruisers... theres a pic of a Taboo Tiki on here somewhere.

I am presently working on something that should make this look like yer mums manky old Raleigh 20 that she goes down the shops on.... all I have to do is spend a bunch of money.

......stay tuned, as they say on Monster Garage.

OH sweet jebus, a voyager

ahhhhhhhhh......the memories. I loved mine greatly. Till I cracked it (not really designed for triple clamps, but then I knew that). that bike ripped

sounds great, my BB is square taper. mind you it would be nice to have a complete splined set-up, but I have no idea if that stuff is compatible with my old frame

I also would like to replace the forks, again though its old technology

Well heres mine. still need to do something with the chain tension i think. cept its out by 1/2 a link so it might have to stay that way. Running 32:16.

Just have to fix the brakes, and then its all go. (the rears are clinging to the rotors like a monkey on a waterwheel, time to return em i think).

Nice - what's the cog size at the front, it looks small or are the cranks just on the long side?
