The Godmachine

Postby Thermo on Tue 2/Jun/09 12:42pm

There's an interesting kiwi-made film playing on the Documentary Channel (SKY) at the moment called "The Godmachine".
Steffan’s documentary is about the grimy daily grind of bicycle couriers in four very different cities: Hamburg, Tokyo, New York and New Zealand.

It explores the experiences and philosophies of four individuals through candid interviews and harrowing on-bike filming sequences shot during the couriers’ daily runs.

Check it out if you get a chance. :)

watched it the other night, was quite good, but looked as though the NZ stuff was tacked onto footage from a different documentary

I've always wanted to do a photo essay on couriers' bikes. Moreso 10 years ago when they seemed to be a lot more rugged, but still reckon it'd be interesting to chronicle the workhorse end of the culture.

Yar - the godmachine were damned fine. Their first album (scenes from the second story) was even better. I quite like the solo stuff of their lead guy (robin proper-sheppard) too, although not as much as is work with the band. It was a sad day when their drummer died...
