No wind at all until about Shelly Bay (ex-) Airforce Base, and lovely sun again. Felt bloody good and gave it a couple of good digs, including not letting myself drop below 35kph over the Pass of Branda, then pushing hard at not less than 50kph through Breaker Bay until Wahine Park/Palmer Head... :satan:

Very happy to feel a little bit like the young Oli for a few minutes there. :D

Port Levy Rd, looking back towards Lyttelton Harbour. My vote for a perfect road to ride. Too wide (1024 pixells) to fit in and I didn't want to trim it.

I was in Shina at the start of the year and loved it. Apart from the smog haze and lack of Krispy Creme Donuts :satan:

After working for the morning I had arranged to go for a ride with a mate from out of town at 1pm. At 1.45 he rang to say he was getting pissed at the Southern Cross. :hmmm: I decided I would ride anyway, so I jumped on my Bianchi and rode out to Days Bay and back.

Another cracker day in Welli, with just a slight southerly to stop it from being too good, and I always enjoy heading out to the Bay on a nice day. I grew up out there and first learned to ride a bike on Moana Road, so it always feels like I'm coming home.

It was a good ride once I hit the Eastern Bays, but the Hutt Road and Petone foreshore almost sapped my will to live...what a freaking nightmare! I'm not usually surprised or offput by the traffic in Wellington, but I swear I've never had so many fuckwits in trucks and vans pass so close to me in one day before.

The Zen Road Ninja was sorely tempted to renounce the ways of Peacefulness and uncork some Ultra-Violence! :satan:

Also, there seemed to be broken glass or freshly laid coarse (and I do mean coarse!) chip seal or a combination of both for every metre of the ride. Bring on biodegradable plastic beer bottles, I say!

After getting out to Days Bay (and bumping into new dad, Burnt Toast) I turned around and rode back home, hitting the Petone Foreshore bike path until the motorway, then the infamous bike lane beside the Hutt Road. I've defended this path before as not being as bad as made out, but it bloody was today! Again, glass, gravel and debris made the ride much less pleasant...at least I was feeling strong, so I put it in the 53 x 15 and pretended it was Paris-Roubaix.

After the usual slalom along Thorndon Quay, I was grateful to hit the waterfront (Hi Goldfish! :) ) and the rest of the ride home was stress-free.

To sum up:
Legs good
Sun good
Ride good

Road bad

Nice Oli... My ride was de rigeur in terms of it just being a flat cruise to flush the legs from a hard session this morning. Low point was having to lock the brakes & flat spot my tyres after a mong went through a stop sign just before the train tracks on Antigua street. I was fired up enough that he got bottled & I chased him. He pulled up on the side of the road & locked himself in the car & refused to even look at me! :hmmm: Don't think he was quite right in the head.

Nice. I was out on the Eastbourne road this lunchtime and it was indeed an absolutely mint day for riding. I was almost tempted to stop at Day's Bay for a swim!

The Hutt Road path was alright a few weeks ago when newly swept, apparently that didn't last long.
