Phoenix Enduro Rises Again

Entries are now open for the 2020 Phoenix Enduro race event at the Christchurch Adventure Park (CAP). This is the second time the mountain bike event has been held at the Park and CAP Event Manager Cameron Hill says work is underway to plan a course that is even more thrilling than the last one.

"The inaugural Phoenix Enduro in 2019 was a huge success. We had over 120 riders from across the country and eight different countries across the globe descend on the Port Hills and CAP trails and the feedback from competitors was awesome. CAP is stoked to have been awarded the hosting rights again and we are determined to make this year's event even bigger and better than the year before."

The Phoenix Enduro is a one-day Enduro mountain bike event with a combination of untimed uphill rides (liaisons) and timed downhills (special stages). The 2020 event will be held on 31 October and is the fifth stage in the Asia Pacific Continental Enduro Series. All competitors will receive points that will count towards the overall series placings.

Enduro mountain bike racing is the fastest growing race format internationally and is designed to be challenging but accessible for a range of riding levels, with the focus being a great atmosphere, community, competition and adventure.

Entries close on Sunday 11th October, and the $180 entry fee includes:

Two days of practice 29th and 30th October
One full day of timed racing (31st October)
Unlimited access to the Christchurch Adventure Parks' chairlift for duration of the week
The chance to win awesome spot prizes, $3,000 prize money, and points towards the Asia Pacific Continental Enduro Series
"With this being one of the first large scale races post COVID-19 we are expecting a large turn out of New Zealand's top racers to come and compete. Border restrictions will make it difficult for overseas riders to compete here this year, but that makes this a great chance for local racers to earn those points and break into the EWS rounds," Hill said. "We have some of the world's best enduro riders right here in NZ, so this is a fantastic opportunity for Cantabrians and visitors from around the country to come and watch some incredible talent at an awesome event."
