When installing Thule 591/598 do people take the rubber strip out completely or cut it to fit?

Is there more noise with it out?

Because I change what I'm carrying frequently I don't have any rubber in my Thule wingbars. They're silent if I have an accessory such as a bike rack or kayak cradle fitted. But if nothing (ie just plain wing bars) there's a whistle above 80kph. The rubber in the T slot stops that however its a PITA to fit across 1500mm bars so I don't bother.

I've 1500mm wing bars on an Outback. Had to cut the mounting slots longer & that caused whistle. Extra rubber fitted on the underside outboard of the legs solved it (the standard fillin plastic wasn't long enough once we extended the mounting slot)

Any one know if it's possible to buy cheap lengths of T bar for roof racks anywhere? Don't need any fittings just want to fit wider bars for carrying roof box and two bikes. Fits at the moment but tight and don't want things rubbing.

Believe it or not the Lucas electrics aren't the big problem. The problem was the conversion from LHD to RHD by a dodgy car dealer almost 3 decades ago. Compounded by a conversion from petrol to diesel.

I'm still finding wires which literally do laps of the vehicle. From one side of the engine bay, into the cabin, across the firewall and back out to the engine bay where it joins the original loom which goes back inside the cabin and across to the instruments!
I was able to cull a lot of this madness from the engine bay 10 years ago. This is the first time I've done the inside.

I've been able to isolate and check through about half the circuits so far. Some wires are dying of old age with cracked and brittle insulation. Some plugs have terrible connections and need replaced. Some switches are breaking (but still work) and need circuits identified for later replacement. Needs more earth points. Easier to find and fix than to start fresh.

Then sorting out power feeds for USB chargers, reverse camera etc. The hilarity is this is just a distraction from the original job of fixing the AC fans and plugging firewall noise leaks.
