Any advice on budget stands and tooling? Do you really need a tension metre? What about a pin dial micrometer?... Tips and tricks?

Bike with rim brakes upside down is the original budget truing stand. Flip the wheel to check dish.

I presume I can therefore fit my 8 speed cluster (when i actually access it), on to his 9 speed hub, keep the same chain and swap rx 100 RD and shifter and be sweet then?

hit up elbooto - he's bound to have 9 speed 105/ultegra sti's kicking around (I presume this is a sti or was he running dt 9 speed shifters?)

thanks - sorted

Bros,

Would the rear one of these with an open pro rim be a good buy?
It'll cost minimum of $250 to get a wheel built up around an existing stock hub. And it seems there are no renowned wheel builders near where I'm at anyway.

yeah bol that'd be mean

Chur.

On the way.

Now I'm all.... "Hmmm shame not to replace the front too....." :hmmm: Might have to splurge on one if the rear's OK.

Spent last night undoing the work of a master craftsman to take these bits of my Dad's old bike:

Ready to go onto his new one!

I sure don't envy you having to wrap bar tape Oli, and you'll be glad to know I left the outer housing threaded through the internal routing!!

Nice work, Michael - the frame and parts are all here now, thanks to your Mum.

As for removing handlebar tape, it's on with the rubber gloves every time for that job, and sometimes even out with the breathing mask.

One for the pet mechanics (babs) what to do if my cat has had a stroke? One eye has gone dark-looks like it's filled up with blood. Is she just old or is there something I should do?

You got two useful thoughts there. Don't want to wait around when it comes to damaged eyes or brains. If there's a chance either organ is damaged get your kitty to a vet today. If you call your usual vets number it'll almost certainly give you info on where to go afterhours.

Bearing retaining compound. It fills gaps between the cups and the shells, providing support so they don't move and creak.

You can also use 2 part epoxy. But do not clean or prep the surfaces as your normally would. Otherwise you just glued the BB in the frame forever!
