if they do an updated g1x with that faster 1.8 lens off the g15/g16 that would be a nice camera!!! find it hard to get excited by the 1/1.7" sensor in the g15/g16 (not really any better than my trusty old xz1)

You cant have a compact camera and a 28mm (equiv) f1.8 zoom lens and an aps-c sensor though. The G16's lens os small and fast because the sensor is small...

Canon could make a G2x with a wide prime but I'd suspect that would be f2.0-2.8 And whats the point when the M mkII will be out and has that nice 22mm pancake?

rx100 - same zoom range as the g15/g16, same speed, bigger sensor (1") - ok, almost certainly there's a compromise in the optics somewhere but it is do-able (also look at the new pancake zoom on the panasonic gm1)

personally, having had the xz1 (very similar specs to the g15/g16) I'd rather go bigger sensor and a wide prime than a limited zoom anyway (see earlier comments about dp1 merrill :D )

Well 5* zoom vs 3.5 * zoom I guess but then I would likely pick the RX100 for a similar price myself too...

Mmmm, fire.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Nikon 1 series? The AW1 seems like it would also be useful out on the water...

There ok. Limited controls etc but fastish af and decent IQ for a weird sized sensor. Not sure I would trust the AW1 under water but I guess thats what its made or. It can use all the standard 1 series lenses etc (but the reverse doesnt apply).

Thanks. I'll wait to see some more in depth reviews pop up online - but it seems like it would be way better than my current waterproof point and shoot, but might leave me wanting more when compared to other comparable priced ones... decisions decisions...

You can get water housings for most of the big P&S stuff anyhow if you need it later.

I've got a waterproof point and shoot. Great for taking on the bike, tramping, fishing etc and random snaps during the day, but really is a bit shit for anything else. Any time I try and take a landscape it leaves me wanting something with a better lense.
