Re: Roadies - Where Did You Ride Today?

Great day for a cruise around the hills yesterday here in Wellington.

I started on the Western Hutt hills, taking in Hill Rd and Sweetacres Dr, before dropping down Normandale Road, and back up Dowse Dr to descend Korokoro. From there I headed towards town, and up Onslow Rd, before hitting a lovely Makara loop. Up Wrights, then down to Aro Valley for the run up to Hawkins Hill, before heading around The Bays. I took a detour up Mt Albert, then up behind the zoo, before a couple of times up Mt Vic via Hapua/Upoko, the other up Carlton Gore/Grafton/etc.

Wasn't sure how my legs would hold up to the 10% climb back over to Eastbourne Heights, so on the way home headed up Horokiwi to make sure. :D

And that, bro, is my story.

Eastbourne again. I'm trying to make this a regular thing as it seems to fit perfectly into the longest free-time slot in my week, and it's good for tapping out some tempo miles.

Start of daylight savings seemed as good a reason as any to dig the roadie out for it's first ride this year :o , time flies when you're being sedentary, so played mind games with myself and finally bought some cleats for the look pedals I've had lying around the shed for ages so I'd feel obliged to take it for a ride. :D

Nice morning for a sifty 35k from town out around mcleans island, a bit of a tail wind home down old west coast road, and not as sad an effort as I expected.

Spinned the legs warm round the bays, followed by a Makara loop.

Woulda have not made it home without the strong wind pushing me up the hill at a guess.

Was supposed to be a 26km hit out in the first of our Twilight series races.

Unfortunately it all came to a screaming halt at 11 km when we came down in a crash. Trip in an ambulance, 5 hrs in A & E and broken rib ... consider myself and the others pretty lucky as it was pretty high speed and could have been a lot worse.

We had been averaging about 48 km/hr up to this point.

Thankfully only a shredded front tyre from hitting the other bikes ... and bike doesnt even have a scratch.
