Has anyone here used both lightroom and aperture? Pros/Cons? Ive got aperture now, and had successes, but I now see lightroom is available in the mac app store...

I can't talk for Aperture. I use Lightroom 3 on a Mac and like it for most things. I've got to learn more about resizing / sharpening for web, though, as all my shots look contrasty and crappy when I send them in that direction. I've just been playing with some timelapses using the Slideshow module, and a template for reducing the duration to 24fps. Lightroom is very intuitive to use. I would guess that Aperture is similar.

Can you still get the free trial of Lightroom from the Adobe site(or app store)? I tried out both for a month and ended up getting Aperture. My only experience with Lightroom was the 30 day trial so not a great deal of use to compare to Aperture.

Both had aspects I liked. Lightroom was faster on my 2011 Macbook Pro, but preferred the workflow in Aperture and integration with my other software (am now trapped in the Apple vortex). Each has editing features that worked better than the other, so depends what you use as to which one you will like I think (e.g. I preferred the vibrancy in Aperture, but noise reduction in Lightroom was much better).

Wow! That is impressive

How long an exposure were you using - and how many shots did it take to catch that?

20 sec's @ f9.0. I took a few shots while I was making brekky, catching lightning in about 10%. There were better / closer forks, but they were hitting behind where the palm trees are. This was the only one out in the open, which touched down in the shipping channel between St Johns and Batam Islands. Bad time to be walking around with a graphite pole-vaulting pole.
