What about getting a longer bolt and mounting the shifter onto the shimano clamp? Can't post pics at the moment, bike at shop getting hose shortened.

tried both mount positions on the shifters?

Was going to ask that - what's the hole next to it with an allen bolt in it?

Its the other mount hole, undo the allen bolt and you can move the shifter over to that hole

Right just got it sorted. If you have the shifter closest to the grip, with the shifter bolted to the right mounting hole, it seems to feel ok. Haven't tested on a ride yet, but I think it's a setup I could cope with :sly:

Hmm ok - here's one for the brake experts:

I've taken the new XT 785s for a few rides now. Great power - getting used to the feel after coming off Elixirs. There's one thing I'm experiencing though, the lever occasionally is pushing out (only the rear) giving me bugger all lever throw. It's only happening on steeper gnar and only after a good grab of slowmethefuckdown. It's just happening intermittently, lever fully pushes out, then another lever grab and it settles back into position again.

The manual did state that this could be thermal expansion, but this isn't a gradual issue over a long downhill and they came with the ICE pads. Pretty unnerving when you're on the rear wheel over something at speed, go to pull the left lever and it's not where it normally sits.

Any ideas?

Might be a bubble of air in the lines? A bleed might fix problem?

Now it's mineral oil (not nasty DOT), reckon it's something I should do myself?

yup, you can ask 99% of bike shops (and they will be able to order it for you), but the likes of Cycle Xpress, or Planet cycles might have the item in question on the shelf
