One of my favourite times of the day when Kaitlyn was small. Probably read to her on average an hour a day from about 1 to 7 or 8...

This one would have been handy at times!

We have identical twins. Their personalities and temperament are very different. I reckon genetics are much less important than environmental factors for a person's development.

I'm doing quite a good number in taking my son places in public.
However today..he was in a cafe with me and drinking some water and he got up with his mouth completely full and walked over somewhere, then halfway back decided he didn't want to swallow the water and stood there and became..the human fountain. This woman gave me such a look, I just rolled my eyes :D

Love the image Nostromo, and needed a laugh! :D

Looks like I'm going to be the residential parent for my kids. Their lovely mother and I are splitting up, extremely amicably but it's still a tough situation. With any luck she'll be living very close to us but whatever happens she'll be doing heaps of parenting - after school every day, some nights. It's all so fresh that nothing's worked out but damn I hope we can make it work for the kids somehow.

She's a great lady, we've got really good communication and haven't been fighting. Grounds for optimism?

That's a bit of a shit sandwich for you :( At least though it sounds a good start to a bad situation oliverbendix. Keeping things amicable, or at least respectful I think must be very important for the wellbeing of the kids.

Sounds like a stink situation to be in Mr Bendix... I'm not a parent yet (but really can't wait) and I'd hate to have to go the crappy time it takes to iron out the kinks while your kids look on in bemusement and 'confuse-ment'.

My parents split when I was much younger and there was a hell of a lot of guilt-tripping and bad-mouthing by both parents in order to have my sister and I take sides. No kid should ever be used as a weapon/bargaining chip)....

Optimism would be the only sane thing to cling to and it sounds as though you're both eager to make whatever happens work for your children first and foremost which is very admirable and commendable indeed.

Yeah, that happened to both of us as kids too. It was far, far worse being caught in the conflict between parents than having them split in the first place. Actually, it was supporting each other through that shit as teenagers that got my wife and I together. I never want to do that to our kids.

I'm hoping optimism is self-fulfilling in this case. Imagine the best possible future and work for it.

Dunno why I'm posting all this in public but it seems to help to talk it out and at least here I can ignore some of the advice without offending anyone!

So my boy has been riding his really awesome little yellow 3 wheeler around lately with a bucket on his head.....
His mum and I had been wondering why...
The we came upon the idea that he sees me riding my Ducati home from work and I have my helmet on.. so we thought we would give something a try

Sorry to hear that, Oliver. Having been there when my boys were 2 and 4 I know what a tough juggling act it is. It sounds like you're both on roughly the same page as far as the kids go, which is the important thing. All the best mate...

Cheers guys, I know it will work out for the kids. We've been running two careers and three kids for long enough that we know how to organise and compromise already!

She's very average athletically, but I'm loving the effort because she used to be a real quitter and I've been hammering the 'I don't care where end up just that you try hard' speeches. :)
