Tell him to go read lensrental.coms article(s)
http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2010/03 ... ther-facts

Not every lens will work perfectly , out of the box, with every body. Tolerances are too small and manufacturing is too inaccurate for that.

Did you fill in the warrenty card? thats all canon care about anyhow.

The guy received it, and has emailed me saying it has a severe front focusing issue, worst at 70mm.

Now here's the confusing part.

It has worked perfectly for me, for the last 4 months, no issues with focusing or anything, and I've used it A LOT. But he wants me to arrange a fix through the warranty I had with the lens when I bought it brand new.

Now, does the manufacturers warranty cover the lens itself over the course of the warranty, no matter who owns it? Or does it only apply to me. If I DO get the lens repaired for him, under my warranty, while its in his possession, is that illegal? (fraud etc)

I'm thinking he might have ulterior motives in the form of wanting to get the dust removed, but I'm not really sure what I 'do' and 'don't' have to do.

Selling stuff on TM can be a nightmare, ultimately if you honestly believed the lens was fine and didnt misrepresent then its not your problem, generally the warranty is not transferable.

Whats going to happen if you send the lens to Canon and they say theres nothing wrong with it and charge you a fee?.

Mmmmm, going to be doing trade-ins more I think. So much easier.

Basically, I emailed the shop I got the 24-70 from explaining the issue with the front focusing. And asked what the next step is.

Also emailed the guy buying it and told him basically what RJD said, but I'll try and help him out if its within my means.

There's genuinely nothing wrong with the lens when I had it, i've been using it for party photos for quite a few months, and it's been awesome. Nothing wrong with it.

Long drive, but it still beats going to work. It took me 90 minutes to get to work yesterday on missbehaving trains, I'll swap you that for an unsuccessful photo adventure anyday.

Got around to reworking the lighthouse photo with the filter darkening. Added a layer in photoshop of the lighthouse at a better exposure.

Okay, a few questions for the videographers on Vorb...
Whats a good lens for filming in dark situations such as in the forest on a cloudy day ? I was looking at this 50mm F1.8 lens Is it what I should be looking at ?

Whats a good editing program ?

And can somebody recommend to me a good tripod ? (Yes, thats right, I don't own one  )

Cheers.

The 50mm f1.8 is a great lens, stopped down to f2.8 is damn near as sharp as the 50mm 1.4 (which is weirdly sharper than the f1.2L).

But at 50mm 1.8f it's still really good, little bit soft but well worth the low light capabilities.

What price range do you have for the tripod?

No. Nonononoo....

Get the mk1 or another 50, even a non canon mount one with an addapter.

The 50/1.8mk2 has terrible manual focus, which you will be using for video, its other qualities are great, the mk1 has a much better focus ring.

I take it it's the size of the focus ring that is the issue? Or is there something different internally as well?
I've noticed it is rather tiny on the MkIIs - can see how that could be a bit of a pain for video. (I don't notice it shooting stills though, but then you've got time on your side if you're using manual anyway)
