I ended up having a good week of riding this week - the weather finally held out long enough to get a few rides in!

Monday: Karapoti etc
Tuesday: Makara, Wrights Hill, Mt Vic, Tip Track
Wednesday: Makara, Tinakori, Skyline
Friday: Ohakune Mountain Road
Saturday: 5 hours in and around the Whaka forest in Rotorua
Sunday: A couple more hours getting slightly lost on the Whaka tracks.

Mint

Cragie Burn today - one of the best rides I've ever been on. Fast, flowing and technical - perfect!! Couldn't recommend it more highly.

Rode The Creosus yesterday from Blackball to the top and back was to rooted when I got back to post but now I'm at work I have plenty of time. Weather was stunning for the ride but the recent heavy rain had turned the middle section of the track between the Hotel sites into a flowing creek bed (with some pretty deep holes now) which made for a pretty brutal climb up. I've got to say that finally cresting the hill and seeing the Ces Clarke hut was a tremendous relief. The ride out was as good as it get's on the Coast, long fast and flowy broken up but the odd section of rock garden and more techy bits where the local abundance of water is starting to have its merry way with the track. Absolute bliss and full credit to my partner Jennie who did the whole thing with me didn't complain once even though the ride pushed her limits and she took a pretty mean fall where her Knee cap impacted one of the many many rocks to be found on the track.

As a side note if any one is planning on doing this ride from the Smoke Ho car park the gravel rode in has been washed out adding about five K's onto the in and out trip. Ignore the road closed sign at the start of the road the slip is a couple of k's up and there plenty of pull of areas nearby to park in.

Miramar for the first time. Jail break was a very nice ride, but I must say I was rather taken by the construction of many of the switchbacks up conviction, they were very well made and lovely to ride. Attached is a pic of the nice view from the top.

Went for a mosey around Makara Peak today. Headed up the Snakecharmer to the top, then down Aratihi to the Upper Leaping Lizard turnoff. Cruised down Leaping Lizard to the bottom, and carried on up Possum track. The foliage along Nikau Valley nearly shredded my arms. Up Missing Link and Aratihi, down Zacs/Northface, then ridgeline extension, swigg and starfish. Cruised into town for a sift around, then back to Karori via Transient and Hibro. Nice day for it

Epic ride for my standards and not on the most pedal friendly bike:

Home > Transient then road to top of Brooklyn turbine > Carparts > Rollercoaster > Roots > Across town and up Mt Vic > Damians > Back to top > Grom > Back to top > TTS > Home.

Stoked

After I'd been for a wee run this morning the weather cleared enough to make me want to ride this arvo. Headed out around Makara, then along the road to Transient, down the road to the tip track, hit that a couple of times, then back home via carparts extn, carparts and transient. Felt good on the climbs, 20:41 and 20:12 on the tip track today. Awesome day out there!

Rode Callaghans in the Nelson Creek area today. One of the shorter steeper more technical trails on the West Coast. 30 - 40 mins of push up and 15 minutes such sweet descent Had never seen the track so dry and the Leaf litter gave awesome traction all the way down and some sweet drift in the corners. Incredible that the miners had such foresight to build a such an awesome old school downhill track.

Headed out for another nifty ride this arvo.

After running a couple of errands in town, I headed through Newtown/Island Bay and round to Happy Valley. First time up the tip track I had intended to be a nice steady warmup. Somewhere that thought got lost, I ended up riding quite hard to reach the seal in 20:08. Hmmmm thinks I, I can go faster than that today. Back down, turn around, give it some jandal. Felt pretty decent throughout, and reached the top in 19:44 - faster, but not as fast as I thought I'd be! Wasn't pooped just yet, so went down and did it again for good measure, this time in a much more sensible 22:10. After all that excitement I hit carparts extn, carparts, sawmill and transient before cruising through town and back up to Karori.

Definitely a nice way to spend an afternoon

Those are damn impressive times, but you must be really bored to want to do that 3 times?!

I did it once today - that was enough. Took a farking long time though :(

Took my new bike for a decent spin. Up wainui hill, labyrinth & TT then the firebreak to Stokes Valley at which point given it's a hybrid I switched to the road and went over moonshine and Haywards to finish of with a sifty ride down the river trail back home...

I feel a Makara peak christening coming up for the bike this week.

Nice work! I've commissioned a bit of a clean up of Nikau too! A punga front found the very small gap between my sunnies and helmet the other evening...
