No attempts at art here, just some snapshots my partner took out the car window yesterday.

Tried driving to Wanganui for a family function yesterday and got turned around at Turakina only 20km from our destination due to flooding and slips closing SH3. Ended up having a 5 1/2 drive for nothing and missed out on a warm sunny day at home in Wellington!!

Turakina School looked like they'd have a big clean-up ahead on Monday. In places the water was lapping around the classroom doors with more torrential rain on its way later in the day. We turned around here, but a bit further down the road the flooding was way, way worse.

Things get perilous as soon as one leaves the protective force fields of Wellie... I hope this serves as a good lesson to those who have thoughts of going wandering.

Moon Lantern Festival in Adelaide, part of OzAsia festival.
The lanterns are made by schools, organisations and other festival groups. Security had strung up a cordon around the area to keep punters away from the lanterns, but nobody seemed to mind as I jumped it and got in close.
When the fireworks started I put the camera on the steps of the rotunda in the middle of the lanterns and shot away with no people in the way. I went back to the wife and kids feeling reasonably pleased with myself to find that the littluns had been terrified of the fireworks and my name was mud. Again.

Big fan of the windy mountain photos, especially the black and white one.

Tonight up Makara Peak after a stunning Wellington day - managed to catch the moon coming up over the harbour by balancing the point+shoot on the picnic table. Would have liked to have got a decent image of the view to the South, with the light fading behind the wind turbines and mountains across the straight. But alas for not having rock solid hands.

Still selling my D5000 for anyone interested. Tardme auction

Nikon D5000 Body.
Nikkor 18-55 VR DX AF-S Lens
Nikkor 18-200 VR DX AF-S Lens
2 Batteries
Battery Charger
Hood, filter and Lens Bag for the 18-200 Lens also included as well as camera strap.

Need it gone so I can get a 550D before the Summer series begins here, so it's down to $1700!

I reckon you will struggle to sell that as a package, I would split out the 18-200 and sell seperately as you can get the D5000 with 18-55 kit lens for $1200 retail, (even cheaper if you got a parallel imported one) , and people considering a camera at that level probably wouldnt splash out on a more expensive 18-200 straight away.

Yeah me too, a mate of mine has just got one (his first SLR... :jealous: ) and after seeing some of ThingOne's results with his I've definitely got one on the wish list. Although my 450D is still well above my current skillset - but hey, dreams are free.

I assume you're wanting the 550 for video capability?

Yep exactly. Basically a mini-7D as far as I'd use it. Eventually I'll run a 550D and a 7D for multiple cam shooting but want a 550D before nationals, its mainly for the 60FPS shooting, makes slow-mo insanely clean and also the full manual control.

Ouch 7D as a first SLR? Talk about a steep learning curve, was bad enough moving from a 350D.
