It was really hard to do this.... I didn't have a tripod or anything to support the camera...

This photo is completely un-edited because Vorb wouldn't let me upload the edited version..

I've only been doing proper photography on and off for the last couple of months, so criticism would be good, but make sure you include how to fix the problem...

What are you using to edit them? Generally you should be able to convert your edited files into proper photo files for uploading.

I quite like the idea of this one... just needs a bit more pop from the flowers. Maybe up the vibrance slider a bit, play with the yellow saturation & luminance and up the contrast slightly which should help to separate the foreground from the background cliffs.

General rule of taking photos of flowers to remember is they need to be good examples of flowers if they're going to be the main subject of the photo as you've done in picking out one or two as the only in focus portion of the shot. These ones do seem to be missing a lot of petals and are a bit droopy and bedraggled. They instantly lose some aesthetic appeal as a result IMO.

...oh and if you noticed it at the time, you really should have picked that ant off one of the flowers before taking the shot!

I did edit them on gimp, I did exactly what you said because the flowers were a bit gloomy, but vorb wont let me upload any edited shots for some reason...

Not familiar at all with Gimp but every editing software I've used (DPP, Lightroom, Photoshop and Aperture) all let you save your edited shots as jpegs.

No, you shouldn't have. I really like that this shot isn't so staged. Flowers at the top of a cliff like that aren't going to be perfect. Having bedraggled flowers shows the life of the place. Also, it is a memory shot for you, as well as a nice picture. If I fussed over details such as perfect flowers or appropriate fauna, that's all I would remember of the location, rather than the simplicity of just being in that place.

Also, also... it kind of looks like the ant is admiring the view. How very romatically "Dreamworks" of me :D

One thing, the focus isn't perfect. Getting the focus right is a must for good shots, because no matter what the composition is like, if its out of focus it'll be ruined.
Also when using gimp, remember to go to save as rather than save and then type in .jpg after the filename otherwise it will save it as a .xcf which if the file type that gimp uses.
