Finally got the balls up to throw myself off X-aisle and Av8a at woodhill. Combined with a few up/downs on Amyl Nitrate and 20km of pedaling - a pretty good day!

First even hike-a-bike in the Kirwins on the new bike.
Pretty fun track but too much hikey to the bikey.
Running on empty near the bottom lead to a muppet mistake that resulted in the left knee opening up.. again.
Luckily sans week-long stay in hospital this time.

Track must have been pretty soggy? Take the helicopter next time, far more enjoyable days riding ;)

Indeed it was quite boggy in some bits.
But weather was good and a week's rain in Chch does things to ya.

Only way I'll return is by heli.

If you are going to jump in a Helicopter, I can think of a number of tracks that are more fun than Kirwins :sly:

Saturday, a couple of hours on the 29er, just sifty, highlights were chinese menu, dragons tail

Sunday, 3 runs with Helen on southstar, down through corners, Helen's skill's and speed are coming along really well, she's riding with way more confidence and speed, even despite the slippy conditions, although I managed to get tangled up in my front shifter, which left me felling a little sore (and very silly as I was messing about)

Today, got the week off work, so I thought I'd take the Soma out for a sift, out to Okere Falls store for coffee (and cake) http://www.okerefallsstore.co.nz/ , then carried on around the lake toward home, so toward did a full lap of lake Rotorua, plus a small diversion, so not far, but good fun

Took a friend over the Rimutaka Incline and back. Aced Siberia Gully  ; we enjoyed coming back up the steep side so much that we took the Back Road to get back down to the car park - awesome little bit of forgotten track! "Every day's a picnic in the bush!"

thelongwalk wrote:Hey Spanner next time your ride up Transient and then to Planet Ride, look for a new track just before you go off the road by the 4wd drive track that leads to planet ride. This is Highbury Fling a legal mtb track -it stil needs some work but is worth checking out. We have just started digging the third stage of Transient, this will connect it to Planet Ride and Highbury Fling.

Hey thanks for this, will check it out!

5 1/2 hours in the red woods today, didn't get as far as I wanted (I've become very lazy with too many shuttle runs :( )

but had a blast, didn't see anyone other than a couple of guys "walking their dog", rode some favourite trails, gunna gotta, Billy-T (both awesome in the wet) rode split enz for the first time since january, had an awesome day, all finished off with an iced coffee at zippies, and a few strange looks from the locals for being plastered in mud with a huge grin on my face (even stranger when they found out how long I'd been out)
