I think it was American photographer Galen Rowell who said the most important part of a landscape photographer's equipment is an alarm clock.

Yep, one of the few benefits of insomnia :) First and last were taken just after sunrise (that fence in the foreground in the first is the subject of the last), the netball one I spotted from the road as I was cycling past Blake Park (Tauranga) on the way home one evening, and conveniently there was someone doing some solo shooting in just the right spot.

Down below the box where you type your reply, there are two tabs. One is "options", the other is "upload attachement".
I think you can take it from here ;)

I'm getting into photography again, and am thinking of starting to play with documentary style public event recording.

Particularly I am interested in prominent political figures such as visiting dignitaries, royalty, economic elite, etc.

I am thinking of getting one of these.

Anyone got any advice as to how to proceed?

Yeah canon canada was giving those away with purchase of more money than I had at the time... I then realised I leave my mug in the car quite a lot, and that would be a very good incentive for someone to smash my window, so decided against it

I bought some macro extension tubes off ebay for $8 delivered. Been having a play with them this morning and they seem to do an ok job. Shot below is handheld, no flash. Now I need to invest in a macro slide rail for my tripod, and a ring flash I think...

Ok... so i've got a Nikon D5000 and a standard 18-55mm lens that came with it. hopefully my Canon HF20 will sell and that'll give me good funds for a new lense or two. What I really want to know is, are these any good, they'd be awesome for filming with and for sports photos, just want to make sure there aren't any hidden dangers i need to look out for...
