Buller Mountain Biking

Postby AdamMTB on Mon 29/Mar/10 11:41am

We've set up a forum for those of us who live in the Buller over on the Coast.

If anyone is looking for some info on what's around or keen on joining some of the locals for a ride check it out.

We don't post all our rides on the site so just pop a post up if you want to find out what we're up to.

(sorry in advance if posting adverts breaks any forum rules, I couldn't see anything that says this isn't allowed though...)

Nice Adam, just found it via the Lyell Ghost Road Track site.
Keep up the good work.
Sounds like my and PC's work fixing up the Enscarpment access might be lost now with the new proposed mine up there. Just hope they do not cut off access for the Ripple Effect track

Hey Tim, you'll have to come back to do the epic loop once it's all linked up.

Haven't ridden the Ripple Effect since Adrian cheese grated his face on the sandstone towards the end. Looks like we are going to loose a bit though, hit up PC if you want to see the proposed changes, he emailed around a draft today or send me a PM with your email and I'll ping it through.

Someone was always going to end up getting dealt to on that last shoot on the Ripple Effect. Rory almost went off the edge for the 2m rock splat one day. I blow a tyre in the shoot one day and rode rim into the creek drop in.
I have email PC for the changes. Cheers

It's all part of the fun. We've talked about plans to ride it this weekend. Hopefully less carnage this time

It's an unmarked track on the Denniston plateau, there's a number of great unmarked tracks up there. Come riding with the locals and we're happy to share.

would love to. got up there a year ago, icey icey cold, did Drill Track, took a wrong turn near the end, and ended up getting quite lost(ish) out the back of beyond (Cedar Creek Rd) at a sign saying "NO ADMITTANCE - Closed Area". turned back, having basically added a couple hours to what would have been a shortish ride... mint riding tho, really enjoyed the frozen stream beds and the frost heaved coal dirt...

haha, make sure you get in contact when you come back over in that case then. Wait until the fog rolls in, that's when people can get lost!

Here's some pics of us heading to the summit last time it snowed, awesome day! http://www.bullermtb.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=33

The great thing about Denniston, no matter how much it rains it's always rideable without the worry of track erosion and you can always find a track that is sheltered from the wind.

I think anyone looking for a great experience up there needs to ride with some locals, we know the tracks to ride (including the ones not on the map) and can navigate if the weather turns to custard.

Hmm, have had a look at the proposed mining. It will effect a more of the trails than thought. Riders need to get out to Denniston and ride the trails before a lot of them are lost.

So did Adrian eat rock on this part of the ripple effect or on the natural rock half pipe.

The last rock chute on the Ripple Effect Track on the Denniston Plateau near Westport. It is a lot steeper than this pic indicates. Look at how far the rider is back off his seat.

Rory went too slow through this part and the rock ripples almost threw over the side into the creek

Need to go fast here to get over the rock ripples

Yeah I have a couple of very cold days up at Denniston.

I am keen to some day make a track from these cliffs all the way down in the sea.
