I won't be up there tomorrow - a bit much work on this week.

And thanks for all your help Murray - enjoy Nelson. We'll have to hook up next time I'm down there (which might be over easter. Maybe...)

Hey Muzz

I dont remember you asking if you could leave the track build programme! Nelson will be great tho - was there last week on a school camp and talked to a few locals about the tracks - sounds outstanding. Our lunchtime crew need to mount a posse for a weeks riding there. Which station is your new base?

Re Transient - got stitches in my finger yesterday (Windmill track build mishap!) so wont be actively engaged in work today but may go for a walk.

Mr Smith - follow the red line on the map on page 6. Its goes a couple more zig zags than shown. You'll find the tools if you look hard!

Took a stroll up just after lunch, found the tools and did about half an hours work. The weather crapped out and no-one else was there so I left.

Hey thanks danpsmith, you probably struck only the 2nd time since we begun that no one turned up - due to work, weather, other commitments and general volunteer malaise. And to be honest, we've never had big numbers.
I'll definetly be there next wednesday from 1230, and so will a few others. If you can turn up again great, if not, no problem.
Even if you only dug 1 metre it's one less than we have to, so thanks for the effort :)

Today was the first time I've been up there and I must say it's a pretty good looking track, I'll defo try and make more builds in the future to get it finished.

I'm pretty sure shifts will allow me to make next wed as well.

I've updated the http://www.tracks.org.nz map and description for Transient. The map now shows the track through to the Karepa intersection, though there's still another 75m of benching required to get there. As of today, benching has progressed south up to the last switchback shown on the map.

Oh, and here's an elevation profile of the track from the Aro Street end up to the Karepa path.

The first 300m has an average gradient of 9%, then with some flatter and occasionally downward bits the overall average gradient is a moderate 7%.

The gradient is very similar to Aratihi. However, Transient is easier to ride up due to the smooth, firm surface. Aratihi, in contrast, has a rocky and often loose surface with lots of little steps to climb which makes it a bit more difficult.

A good dig day, big thanks to Jo, Zoe, Dan,Craig,Jonathan, kev and to three others that left just as I arrived. We stored the wood and concrete for No5 switchback and built about 50 metres of track. Karepa St is just a short MTB carry away.
