Night ride up to Apiti.

Left just after 7. Had a headache and random gear changing issues but pills and a little side of the road fettling sorted things.

Watched the stars come out while descending down to the river below Kimbolton.

I had stripped the dyno and lights off the bike for last wednesdays trip south, so I thought I'd put my stupidly bright lights on, plus helmet light for the descents. Turned out a good idea as I could pick a possum out at 50m. Lots of critters out, missed a bunny by a tail.

Near Totora reserve met a couple of teenage boys on MTBs. They had escaped from the christian camp and were trying to find cell coverage to call their GFs. :)

Nice run back into town once I left the hills behind, wind had dropped off. 135 in 5:28 with 1600m of climbing.

Well I decided to head out yesterday afternoon after procrastinating all morning on account of me feeling like shit after the hayfever I had on the drive down turned into something much nastier.

I had planned on just a lap of the Sumner Downs to spin the legs out, but heading towards the Colombo/Dyers Pass intersection, I thought what the fuck, I'll do short bays.

So I suffered like a dog up Dyers Pass road, my legs had nothing, my lungs were full of crap, and my throat was drier than a dry thing. I distinctly remember when I last rode it a couple of months ago, I was a gear or two higher in most places :(

Around the bays, I didn't fare much better, I couldn't get on top of my gears over the pinches.

Then from Lyttleton to Summit road, again I had nothing.

I'm looking forward to better things later on my holiday.

So in all 56km in 1:59.45.

Owwwwwiie.

Headed towards Little River with Nathan Dahlberg, Scott McDonnell and Mark Tindle (1 ex Pro, 2 A graders and one fat bastard) into a strong southerly I knew this would not end well. We plugged along into the drizzle which turned into rain and were down to 28kph at points and seeing Scott is whippet thin and very efficient on the bike I was not getting much shelter. As the rain got worse they decided to head up Kaituna Valley I left them to it and tried to hammer home but the legs said uh uh no way matey. I came back at 30-32 in the tailwind while they went the 10km up the valley and back and came home at 40-50kph and got back at the same time as me. Stretched the legs over the Downs and the life came back. First three hour ride in quite some time so pretty happy.

:) I’ve been getting some 37km rides in just to lose 4kgs  and slowly build up some fitness.

I doubt I’ll increase the length for quite some time as there is nothing I’m training for.

Nice to see some others out early in the AM too and to have such excellent weather for it :D

Awww ya know, pushing beypond my speed limits down hill, took a corner too fast ... ops.

Nurses at Dannevirke hospital, awesome and no 3 hour wait. Me thinks, if you crash in Welly just go to a smaller hosiptal, it'll take just as long to get there get treated abd get home as it does in Welly!!

Made it 80kms of the 210km for the day (Masterton to Waipukerua via Route 52, lovely road, bad corner) and just didn't realise how tight the corner was.

Sore in places I didn't know I had places! Swollen owies. BUT I DID NOT CRY, until I had to call my hubbie and mum, then i cried!

:) Nice ride today.
I went zipping down a hill to visit a friend (never been to his new place before) to find that they live at the bottom of a dead end road...so I had the joy of the slog all the way back up again

Nice 2.5 hour cruise round bays and up owhero road :) First decent ride post a chest infection (and a root canel).

Plenty of friendly cyclists out. Had a few good chats. Even spotted a roadworks top (worn by Simon).

glad to see things healing up tricks.

I went out for a blat around the kapiti coast today following a few roads that I knew went nowhere to see where they went and ended up following SH1 back home cause I was too stuffed to do anything else. It seems my legs have decided that they want to be on holiday too. I only did 84km, came home, showered and promptly fell asleep. I knew I was stuffed but didn't know it was that bad. only 1 month to sort things out ready for my return to Taranaki. If that went like today then it would be a very long day!
