Working. I did a few hours in the rain on wednesday- was digging to the right where the steep walking track up meets the trail. Might do a bit on sunday.

Another great dig day in the sun, we tackled the steepest part of the track. Thanks to the Andrews, Alex and Andy and a big thank you to the people from the Global Volunteer Network who put in some hard yards. A great concept. On again next wednesday from 1200.

A big thanks to the Mainzeal volunteers and the usual regulars for a good dig day. We're in an area of three switchbacks so a lot of work needed. Progress is still going well, and on the last dig one person got crapped on by a pair of saddlebacks so obviously welcomed.

Hiya
perhaps a silly question, but where is the start of the top end of the new trail ?

I am not quite sure when I can fit it in, but I would like to help out,
cheers ;)

There is no 'top' as such yet, seems to be a bottom up build...

We're just digging from the bottom, about 500 metres so far with deliberate gaps at start so it's harder to find. Next week we will be digging at the top with a big group of BNZ volunteers- we'll be digging the other track, the contour track going across the hill towards playground at bottom of rollercoaster -that may be easier for you to find Robbie from the top, I can't give you directions as I've not yet seen it.

Also a few people I've meet on the trail have asked about doing a few learn to dig sessions in weekends/after work - this isn't organised yet so would encourage them to go to one of the other excellent projects on at mo and advertised on Vorb, namely -makara/miramar or wainui trail building.

Thanks for the plug :-). We're digging most Sundays from 10am in Miramar although this weekend Grant and I will be in there today from 12pm, details in the Miramar Track Project thread: http://www.vorb.org.nz/miramar-track-project-t91605-255.html.

Looking forward to checking out the new Aro tracks and getting over there one Wednesday soon...

Anyone know if all the tools are going up to the top track with the big work party tomorrow?
I was planning on working on the lower track AKA Shatonbyasaddleback, Wheres batman, stickback switchback etc .....

I went up there with a mate from the bottom of the track about 1pm this afternoon. There was nobody there and no tools that I could see. Walked up following the ribbons but couldn't find the top of the trail. We came out on a 4wd track near Mortimer Terrace, found a footpath up to Karepa St and then walked to the top of Sawmill via Ashton Fitchett Drive. No sign of any track building going on up there so walked down Planet Ride back to Aro St and went home. :(

Work was on the other track, from Denton park (starts at the bottom of the Roller Coaster)
I think it was there today because there was a big organised work party.

It might pay to post on here each week where the focus is so you guys dont miss out.

Yep, fair enough. It was blogged here, but could have been clearer. You were unlucky as that is the first time we've moved diggings.
Digging from 12:30 tomorrow, even if it rains heavily there will be somebody there. If unsure of location, walk up from the bottom and work will be in the area of the three switchbacks.
A big thanks to the BNZ crew for last wednesdays efforts on the contour track, I can't quite rememeber the figure but either 400 or 700 metres of pilot track was benched- huge effort-very much appreciated.
