Nope, need to loose some weight (from me) get fitter, get stronger. I don't NEED a new bike (well other than the fact that the flux is off to its new owner on Monday)

Its ok Dean... you are just in the ebb of your natural cycle. At some point in the future you will return to a state when you have a different bike for each day of the week ;-)

The (oh so very goddamn rare) benefits of being self employed.

Loaded up the Slacker at lunchtime and made haste to Vegas.
Corridor, Grinder, Mad, Yellow Brick, Pondy New, RC, Dragons Tail.

Okay, so it has been a long time since I have got out for a good long hard ride, which is unfortunate, especially since it is my favourite riding and I am excited about events like Alpine Epic and Kiwi Brevet.

With a day off work, this was a great chance to get out there.

I started out by rocking out to Seaview to start along the Hutt River Trail at Hikoikoi and worked my way up the Western side. My inability to read tagged maps got me into trouble and I crossed to the Eastern side at the Kennedy Good bridge and carried on. It wasn't long before I was wondering how much further to the Dry Creek entry to Belmont was, then I spotted it. But I was on the wrong side of the river. I turned around and headed back to the Kennedy Good Bridge rather than carrying on to Silverstream and coming back along the road.

I got to Dry Creek/Belmont feeling pretty good and jumped on to the Puke Ariki trail and cruised on up, having to push the steeper/crappier parts. Once I was a few hundred metres from the top of Boulder Hill there was a sign on a fence saying this part of the park was closed for lambing. Bummer. I rocked back down the way I came (rather than doing the dry creek loop - I wasn't sure if that was okay), down onto the road and over Haywards to Porirua for lunch.

After having far too much lunch and paying too much for some chain lube, I headed toward Tawa and climbed up to the tip and through Spicer Forest. I was feeling pretty rubbish after lunch, so the k's were painful. Once I was through Spicer Forest I had a nice cruise down Ohariu Valley road and a bit slower up Rifle Range to the Old Coach Road.

I thought this might be tough, but despite being quite tired it was not too bad. Up to Mt Kaukau which was as windy as ever and along the tops. I find the first half after the top to be really tough in general and today it was worse. I was pleased to get through that and get on to the less step terrain. Battled on through, feeling tired, but not sick from lunch anymore so that was good. I knew I was tired, because I was singing Eminem songs in my mind.

Out to Makara Hill Road and I had time to cruise up Makara. Normally I would turn middle ring up Varley's and Zac's, but today it was granny pretty much the whole way! Up to the summit for a quick photo and then I cruised down Ridgeline to the bottom.

Home. Nice.
I left home around 9, got home about 5:20. A few photo breaks and a lunch break cause I am weak. All in all pretty good, but if I want to do Kiwi Brevet I need to do some very very hard work between now and then!

Nice ride. Worth noting that the farm parts of Belmont Regional Park are closed from Saturday 22 August to Friday 23 October 2009 (inclusive).
