Nice sifty grand loop @ Makara to get the new old bike muddy for the first time. Never actually bothered to ride up Missing Link/Aratihi before (as I'm usually always on the DH bike), quite a nice climb, apart from when XC wanksters steam down Aratihi and ruin my climbing flow. Ride down Ridgeline you pussies! I'd forgotten that Ridgeline is actually a bit ruffiez on a hardtail, hit all the same lines I hit on the DH bike though so not too bad.

Was gonna do Leaping Lizard/Nikau cuz I've never done them before but as I am fat and lazy didn't feel like riding up Aratihi again. In hindsight I should've, as when I got back to the carpark I didn't feel particularly tired. Something for next weekend.

Aratihi is fun downhill - stop interrupting their downhill flow!

I pulled over and let them go past even though uphill has the right of way. Because I'm nice.

Took the rigid DMR SS out today for a skid

4 runs down the jump track, just to warm up, then did a Billy-T, GGGGGGGGGGG-Rock, Rollercoaster, Chinese, Dragons, the bottom of BRNT , Dipper.

It was mint, I've done a few sifty rides on the rigid and its really good at reminding you you to hold your weight right in the corners, and work on flow

I got out for a skid today. Up the road to Varleys, then T3. Down Ridgeline etc, then met up with Biteme +1. Headed up Salvation, then down Scout Hall and Goldmine. Up the road to Denton Park, and up to the Wind Turbine. Down carparts, back up the road, and along Carparts extn. Down to Long Gully and back up to Wrights Hill to steam down Deliverance (Which was riding pretty nicely). Left the other two at the carpark and hit Wahine, Varleys, Zacs and down T3 and Vertigo to finish. :)

I've changed from a 630mm flat bar to a 777mm flat bar (Well, actually 730, I had to trim it down). So far it's OK, but will take some getting used to.

Good to catch you out there PBR, was it really the Makara shirt that gave me away as "not a local", or the fact you steamed up behind me on your rigid down BRNT....

Cheers for the route advice for the end of my ride too, Lions/Turkish/Challenge (I think) and then Dipper/Tahi saw me back at the car with the last of the light.

Flying Nun, Bowenvale Traverse, Mt Vernon.
I was intending on multi-laps of the Nun, but there was a few wet/slippy patches, so thought I leave it to others to mess up. Pity really as most of it was perfectly dry. I think the frost was taking it's toll on the top layer, especially in the shady areas, even tho it was after 1pm when I was there. Bowenvale Traverse was dry as a bone, except in the 2 x climbs that are sheltered from the east. Mt Vernon was loverly as always.
Took a few photos while I was at it.

Today, on day 2 of my 'ride any shit' week, I headed out to McLeans Island. For 2 reasons. 1, my morning meeting ran a bit long, so didn't end up riding up Rapaki and headed for a soft option instead, and 2, I wanted to see the new 5km section of track that had apparently opened.

It hasn't opened. :(

photos of a very dull ride. Only small amounts of ice and pretty rocks.

Tomorrow... Hmmm.... Weather says it may well be the puddle. If I go before midday, the frost should be knee deep still, unless it's knee deep in mud/sand of course. I haven't ridden a full loop there since the logging hit top-gear (just some random riding for an mtb-orientation event) so kinda hoping the teddington chip has had a chance to dry and harden where last it was a bog.
