First week highlights:

Mary and Max - the exact complete opposite of a Hollywood animated movie - sweet, sad, disturbing, touching. Highly recommended

Best Worst Movie / Winnebago Man - both really fun and uplifting doco's, and both about slightly unusual people that have to deal with being famous for all the wrong reasons. See em if you want to have have a good time and come out smiling.

Tyson - just BRUTALLY honest, it is like the meds he is on now preclude him from filtering what comes out of his mouth. Really interesting to hear his perspective on the success, tragedies and scandal of his life.

Moon - pre Star Wars style sci fi - science, thought, acting, no laser beams or explosions - if you are a big fan of 2001/Silent Running/Blade Runner don't read anything about it and just go in blind.

Thirst - oh FUCK YEAH - from the director of Old Boy - Cannes jury award winner - everything a Vampire movie SHOULD be - sex, blood, addiction, sacrilegious, twisted. If you think Twilight/True Blood is the bee's knees, avoid this because a dose of the real deal will crush your fragile little mind.

me & HDC have tickets for Moon & Thirst (as well as loads others I can't remember).
Heard only good stuff about Moon. Directed by David Bowie's son I believe?
Also looking forward to seeing Mother...

Directed by the former Zowie Bowie and produced by Sting's wife.
Has a very British 70's sci fi feeling to it.

Drag Me To Hell = sugar free Evil Dead, same ideas, pg-13 execution, the high school girlies are going to squeal when it opens wide, for those of us that want the real deal, not so much

Dead Snow = Evil Dead on ice - literally once the chainsaw gets involved - fun but formula - see it with a big crowd for a good time

It Might Get Loud - Jimmy Page plays air guitar, The Edge plays Ramones at school, Jack White is clearly nuts - paper thin 'documentary' with a few chuckles.

Embodiment of Evil - like Argento and Jodorowsky had a slightly touched but very evil love child - I WANNA SEE A SEQUEL - The Seven Sons of Coffin Joe!!! Avoid at all costs if you are easily offended, have issues with sexualised violence or require a co-herrent story line to be spoon fed to you.

Thirst was good. nice titties too.

Baader Meinhof complex: gripping, and sad, and misguided. Also nice titties and the wide boosh.

Moon: FREAKIN' Awesome. I really liked this. I think 2001 is over rated, but the Blade Runner and Silent Running (and OK, the 2001 references) were great. Sam Rockwell is good in it. Just as well really...

Red Cliff. Brilliant. Epic battles and whatnot. John Woo vilence but his cast is excellent, and the story fascinating.

Enjoying it so far.

Saw Coraline 3D yesterday, ace 3D system polarised glasess, looking forward to toy story 3 3D. Not looking forward to the cost of home 3D screens

Got Moon scheduled for tomorow night, Thirst and Dead Snow later on..

Red Cliff I have on disk and am 1/2 way through the long version, total awsome.

Limits of Control.

Jim Jarmusch is one of my top top favourite film directors. i love his sense of style, his shots, the music he usually picks, his choice of actors, everything. Dead Man is probably my most favourite movie of all time. Ghost Dog is a masterpiece. Broken Flowers was really good. Strangers in Paradise is great, and Down by Law and Coffee and Cigarettes were good too. but. saw Limits of Control on sunday night, and i must say, its not his best work. it great to look at, and is set in some fantastic locations, and it has the coolest looking main actor, and a hot naked chick with glasses and a clear plastic raincoat, but there's practically no story, very little actually happens, and it is just a bit too oblique to the point where it just kinda doesnt quite gel. definitely not gonna grab that many people and make them lovers of his films...

hmmm i liked Dead Man...but kinda slow..although it was years ago ,so i might appreciate it more now.
Coffee and Cigarettes just annoyed the shit out of me...

obviously I wasn't the target market (?)
