but... but... they must be good because they come in black!

It's been scientificly tested and proven by injuneers that red bikes go faster than black bikes

That's why my SS commuter is red :)

RST Omega T6, a few years old, just spring loaded not air shocks or anything flash. While I may be able to drain them, they may well be buggered internally seeing as how the water has been in there for months now... Maybe fill them with cement and make them rigid!

There isn't really anything inside them to bugger, maybe just clean up any corrosion with a little wet 'n' dry, then clean them up, and put them back together with fresh grease. They should be as good as new.

fully concur with this. As long as the legs are not rusted through you will be fine.

Should be sweet with a cleanout and re-grease.

My cousins boy had the same thing happen with his. I turned his bike upside down and water just started running out.
Pulling them apart and cleaning them etc is virtually fool proof

This rusty broken spoke thing is getting to me :paranoid: Hands up who has or knows someone who has had a problem with these crap ,dangerous Chinese spokes with the small rust spots that snap mid spoke. As the earlier posts have stated its very dangerous for the mechanic's but riders too .When will the Cycle Importers in this country (yes it affects all of them!) wake up and maybe do a recall...when someone crashes and dies because of this issue? These spokes are defective and it is recognised to be a world wide problem and has been for the last 4 years. Should you as customers pay to have this fixed ? Should the shops loose out and pay to fix it ? :hmmm: Why should we be responsible for a problem that the factorys in China have caused. They should be made to fix it

Last time I was working in a shop (I left said shop in May 2008) most of the cycle wholesalers I dealt with (I was a purchasing / warranty person in a large NZ retail outlet) were dealing with the spoke issues well, when they were presented to them (I was having re-built up to 10 pairs some weeks, 2 or 3 most weeks) and many of these wheels were 2 plus years old and the wholesalers were still doing rebuilds at no charge

It does not affect ALL cycle wholesalers, only those with entry to mid level complete cycles using Asian pre-assembled wheels (I can think of 6 (maybe 8) wholesalers) that it might affect

do you work in a store?? if so maybe you need to talk to your reps and see what they can do to help you, oh and make sure if you are working on those wheels on second hand cycles that you wear appropriate eye-protection

I don't believe that the spoke issues will cause catastrophic failure like you suggest

Which spoke wholesaler do you work for?
