I have know idea on entry level slr's what could i look at for around $600 ( for camara itself)?

Sorry couldn't be F'ed starting a new tread

If you are wanting an SLR for surf photography be warned that 500 or 600mm prime lenses don't come cheap!!

Surf , mtb and scenery , ill spend more if needed im the type that will pay what i have to to get the right stuff ....i just dont know where to start. (ill note down 500 - 600mm for surf :) )

Oh and looking at web sites $600 was unrealistic ill try for $1200

if going down the canon road the 450d new or look at a 40d second hand might a be option

a good all rounder lens to look for second hand for $1800- 2000 is the 100-400mm is
good for surf ,landscape and mtb lens
couple of samples taken on 10d and 30d with 100-400

Been stitching again.
Weird thing was I found the 5 original files! I had taken the pics a couple of months back and did not even remember them. I think this was the night my camera battery went flat on me and I came back home disgusted, then just forgot about them.

Anyway, it seems to have come out OK, nothing too flash, but not bad.
For those non-wellyites, this is the view of the city from the Overseas Terminal. To the left is the boat store place, CBD is across the middle, towards the mid-right is the cranes at centreport and out to the far right is the road out to the Hutt Valley, and across Petone.

As always, if anyone wants high quality copies of my pics for printing, etc then send me a PM and I can sort out getting them to you.

Hey photogs... my dad wants a new camera... anyone know if 450d is really that much crappier now that the 500d is coming out? Seems like the stuff it does is not worth the extra dosh :eh:

Buy the 450 without the Kit lenses and spend the savings on better lenses.

My thoughts exactly... I am going to lend him my old kit lens or trade it too him in exchange for the new waterproof canon point and shoot... better on the boat me thinks!

Tripod Question?

My partner is looking a for a good versatile tripod (ie she only wants to buy one tripod). Currently she has a Canon 450D and wants a good quality tripod, without needing absolute topshelf gear, but definatly more than a $99 tripod from the L.C.S.

Cheers

I got my tripod from that place in Chch I can't remember the name off hand.
Have a Silk 5600 (5X00 something) $130 or there about, I like it really stable, easy to use and adjust. I'm told its about the same weight as the bling carbon one a mates work colleague got, much more stable and a whole bunch less.

The only thing I don't like about is not having the time or energy to use it more.
