Cheers, it was one of about three I was happy with out of the fifty or so I took! Had the lens at 200mm, and the mantis was about 15cm from the glass. I had to set the focus manually and move back and forwards by a mm or so to get the right focus - and then it'd start doing its forward-backward wobbly thing, moving its head in and out of focus!

Great Shot of the Mantis!!! I was going to ask what settings you used, but I see you've posted them now.

Just looking out from home I see the harbour has done that once in a while thing and gone all flat and shiny. I'm off into town tonight, see if I can capture a great shot or three from Mt. Vic, and will have another hack at a couple of panoramics. This will be the first time with my new camera, so I'll be pleased if they come out good.

OK, so the Wellington harbour didn't live up to the view from home, but I did get a couple of reasonable shots, I think....

Yup, I agree, the water / wind just wasn't playing my game tonight, I put together a panoramic, which looks OK, but is similar to one of my older ones. In the original quality it is quite a clean shot, but could be better. This is the first attempt with the new camera, and the biggest single mistake is forgetting to change the setting to store the RAW image file, so my source data was already compressed. Still, given the water wasn't playing right, so no decent reflections I am still happy with the outcome.

Ops, just about tried to upload the 227Mb Photoshop file!!!!!

[edit] hmmm....that didn't work, have to make it smaller still [/edit]

That's better, worked this time. :)

Nothing special, just out in the garden, and found some creatures.

Some pics of a wood pigeon I took earlier today at Nichol's Creek. One day I will get the lighting right and there will be no branches or twigs obscuring the view.
