Yes, you're not nearly as soft with your 32:16

I shall consider my rebuttle over a chai latte.

Not necessary. You just need to admit that you made a mistake :)

Postby bluedogSS on Thu 10/Apr/08 7:54am

Morning,
Under 3 weeks to go and we're just a handful of entries away from hitting the limiter!
Lots still to do but all good.
There'll be some exciting news about VORBs involvement soon!
If anyone has pics of their bikes can they send them to the team, please - singlespeed@riderotorua.com

So what's the concensus for a ratio at the nats? Everyone seems to be on 2:1, but I'm not sure I can climb on that.

Not everyone is on 2:1. Some are picking something easier.

Maybe I'll watch you twiddle on the flats from the finish line

Probably too far away from the finish line for your myopia.

Might have to man up then eh?

:pmob: i have only ever run 2:1 at vegas - but then I have never really been fast. Can ride it all at that ratio though, and if I can, Kah can (but faster).

What would you compare the biggest hill in rotorua to here in welly?

I reckon if you rode from the lowest point (the carpark) to the highest point (Tuhoto Ariki trail entrance) it would be about 50 minutes riding, via some gravel road (5 mins), some sweet gently ascending and undulating singletrack (15 mins), some more gravel road (15 mins), this time much steeper with some loose rocks (though not as nasty as Tip Track from what I have heard), then some more single track that starts as a gentle climb then builds to 1 relentless short pinch after another (10 mins), then finally some more gravel road (5 mins). Its all rideable on a singlespeed for most people, but to do it non-stop at a good pace would be character-building.

No bike, but a wheel I built today expressly for Singlespeed Nationals.

It's a Surly free/free hub with Shimano 16 and 18 tooth freewheels, a Mavic Xm819 UST v-brake rim all laced up 3 cross with DT Swiss Competition spokes to come in at 1080 grams, including the axle nuts.

It should be a staunch wheel for a guy who should be not far off the sharp end of the race on ANZAC weekend...
