There are 2 rollable bits that are easy to do, for some reason I thought I could roll off the vertical bit. I didn't faceplant, I just went over the bars and did a sick barrel roll down the next bank and landed on my back, didn't even hurt. I faceplanted elsewhere.

How long did it take you to complete? Oh, and roughly, whats your fittness - and were you gunning it.

Just interested as I've done both and also wanted to do the link. Awesum country!
Cheeers...

Yep it's awesome country up there, and joining the two tracks together in a loop is a great day out if you are into that sort of riding

It took me from 8am till 5pm to do the loop back to the car.
Some approximate times (from GPS files),
Moonlight car park to top of bush line 2 1/2 hrs
Moonlight bush line to Ces Clark hut 3 1/2 hrs
Ces Clark hut to road <1 hr
road end to moonlight car park 2 hrs
I stopped at the hut for 1/2 hr, lost 20 minutes on the tops in pea soup fog and would have spent 1/2 hr+ taking pics, talking to people etc etc.

The top section from the moonlight bush line to the croesus / barrytown / moonlight junction was 95% push and carry,

....and fitness I would be a bit above average ( not a racing type) with good endurance,
and speed, I wasn't gunning it, being up there on my own I was going at a good steady "I need to get there today but not hit the wall" pace.

Cheers

and I got out of the madness of ChCh

I went for a very pleasant and enjoyable ride up Mt Thomas,

....the view was great. :)

.... as was the ride down

I love holidays

Fencline, Carparts, Mr X, single track up to the start of the Leaping lizards (their fun), Possom bait (not so fun) Nikau, Arithiti, Zacs, Varlys, Wahine, home.

Bloody soaked by the time I got home (started raining when I was at the bottom of Posom bait)

But fun all the same.

A couple of hours around sandy point on the cross bike.

Atualy quite enjoyed it, what it lacks in techyness makes up for in shear brutalness.

Looking forward to blinging out my cyclocross bike a bit more. Got some new wheels ordered and might get some new cranks too.
