How Do We Save Vorb?

Postby keeweenz on Tue 19/Oct/21 9:52am

Hi all,

I'm having so much fun browsing though old vorb stuff at the moment and its a total time capsule of the early 00 mtb scene in NZ which I love..

What I'm worried about is the whole site falling over and losing all the info and photos etc.

Is there a I / we could save a offline copy as such? Im not sure what is even possible! Admin might have a opinion on this etc? Happy to be told bugger off!

Cheers!

I'm with you on that one. I often find myself hitting the 'random' post order for some old time giggles. I thoroughly recommend it to everone.

Don't worry, we have backups. If the site does crash, we have a copy of all the stories, info, and images. So if we had to, we could restore everything, you're in safe hands.

More than two decades of MTB (and other) random scribbling amounts to 100GB of data. So it's going to take you a wee while to save it all. Then you'd have to set up a Linux server environment to access it all. If you want to go that route, drop me a PM.

You're much better off, enjoying vorb as it is here. But here's the rub, hosting a 100GB forum indefinitely cost money.

So if you, not just you, but everyone. if you enjoy vorb and want to continue enjoying vorb. Then hit the DONATE button to your left. You can donate using either a credit card or by paypal. All in complete, end-to-end digital safety.

We have committed to keep hosting/running vorb for as long as there is money still in the bank. At the current burn rate, that should see us still here for another year of so. The more donations we get the longer we can keep going. And we really should keep going, because vorb is true piece of mountain biking Kiwiana.

Put out the rumour that Vorb stands for Vaccinated Only Ride Bikes.

Should stir up some corner of the internet and boost traffic.

Good on ya, we live to fight another month.

Come on people, dig deep. Aren't we all over-paid high class lawyers by now who can spare a few bob for a good cause, I know I am (not)
