Cyclocross 2010 Nz Champs - Date Confirmed!!

Postby IL Treno Dolore on Thu 13/May/10 11:09pm

Pain Train (in association with HMTBC) present The 3rd annual NZ Cyclocross Champs!!

Once again the Whakachang will be the hosts of the now annual NZ CX Champs, being held at Pukete Farm Park, Hamilton.

Same venue as last year, totally different course....but we will have a Rhino pit again!

Date confirmed is Sunday 29th August, race 1 start 11am, race 2 start - 1pm.

This year is extra special - The Pain Train guys and gals are fundraising for Chuckie Redwood, a little guy with a big smile and a BIG brain tumour problem!
Ride for Chuckie and his family (Rick, Keighley and Emily) so he can keep charging with that big smile! :D

Your entry fee of $25 will go a long way going to a good cause, as well as a great event! Much like last year, loads of spotties but even more bang for buck with a few other freebies to help you enjoy the day. Bring a picnic, the family and the dog (on a leash).

More details to come with entry form and website + updates on the Chuckstar.
There will be a gold coin Chuckie Cross race for the kids as well!

Go to below link for last years "international" report and some photo's on the CX Champs

Nice one, good to see it going towards a good cause
Mountain bikers are still welcome right? :paranoid:
Though I could always run drop bars on the Soma :D

May want to put this thread into the "events" tab too so it shows up more ;)

Where does one practice for Rhino Pits? Would like to avoid being such a nana this year.

I hear the Brea tar pits run a close second to Puketes famed Rhino pit :D

 Doh - thanks Bob

Re the type of bikes and their riders, as it's not UCI sanctioned, it really is a "Kiwi Cross" style "Champs" event (as previous years) and with the "Chuckie Cross" thrown in the mix we will have kids on BMX's, 3 wheelers etc, so ya Mountain bike isn't gonna be a problem in the Big Kid's race!

This years course is certainly more to your advantage if you are on a real cross bike too though ;) If you can ride it and it doesn't have a motor, you can race it! A highly geared singlespeed Crosser or 29r will do the business as well ok Vlad, Potter, Brutalfreeride and co.
Of course, thats what we thought last year too.....Focker = fail on that one!

The NBB's will be involved too, so Russ we may need a hand with a "Mini" Rhino pit - a smaller one for the kids....can't have parents having to dive into the BIG pit to rescue them eh

Meh - I'm divided on whether to fit Locusts and crop bars to the Karate Monkey .... or take up the job of moving the marked track deeper and deeper into the Rhino pit as the race goes on :D

Drop bars on my Soma Juice. Might do it for a laugh :D
And I'll probably ditch those pesky indexing gears too :sly:

You can do both Russ :sneaky:

I'd go the 29er though verus your 26" Trance of last year - the K-Monkey will cut through the PIT like andy handy  ...just gear it up so you can crank it to get through it!

To be fair Focker - I did start the day in the right manner. Unforunately the converted roadie locked wheels up after about 3 laps. Stopping twice a lap after that in the first race encouraged me to ride the 26".

Not sure that was a good idea tho ...

The pit wouldn't have been so bad if it didn't have things buried in it like branches and other riders. Made using anything but the tried and trusted (untrusted for some) line the only option.

Oh yeah count me in this year  Needs more running and hurdles this time round :paranoid:

Datsane, we can guarantee barriers again this year, they were a bit of an oversight for 2009, but hey we gave you the rhino pit and Hoegaarden hill as recompense...and you looked to be really enjoying the hill on those last few laps :satan:

...now all i have to do is wait for my broken leg to heal after last weekend's first blat on the cross bike.

remember low tire pressures are your friend, high tire pressure = no grip and massive fail

Holy smokes! A broken leg already?? You're going to have to slow down a bit if you want to make it through to August in one piece!

I was a little sad to see no barriers in place last year, but in the end I didn't miss them at all! I still have no skill or finesse with the dismount-run-jump-run-jump-run-remount thing. Not sure I'll get much of a chance to work on it this year either! :D

I'm planning to ride into and knock over barriers, but more likely to run into then proceed falling over barriers in the hope that I'll knock them over
My dismounts SUCKED

Are the personalised name plates happening this time I have my name sorted for mine

As a triathlete (in summer - at the moment I'm pretending to be a cyclist) I would like a lot more running than mud. Having to takes shoes off while on the bike for the dismounts works for me too.

Tempted to get some CX tubies for the classic Shamals - that would be cool...
