Central Auckland-dirt Jumps

Postby trails101 on Sat 12/May/18 10:53am

Hi guys.

Was thinking about building some dirt jumps south of the bridge near central auckland. At the moment its looking like the bottom end of appirana reserve will be a good spot. Leave some suggestions if you have a good spot idea and or location.

Looking for people willing to ride and build.

Probably should check with the council first

Or... You could ride one of the well maintained and fully legal jump/mtb parks NZ is littered with and keep reserves and locals happy.

AUCKLAND has absolutely no dirt jumps out where I live. ill probably be doing some stuff out the way a bit but still quite central.

the closest legal dirt jumps for me is birkenhead 40 min drive.

I want something in riding distance.

Unless you have some private land, or some land with permission given by the owner/council, you'll find it very hard to build/maintain some legitimate jumps that are worth riding. Contact your local council, do some investigating and see if there's any unused land which could be transformed, then start the proceedings. If you just go into a random patch of reserve land thats owned by the council and start building stuff chances are you'll get fined and/or charged. Especially if its a wildlife reserve.

I'm moving to Auckland tomorrow and would be keen to help build in central Auckland, or anywhere! Seems to be heaps of potential for spots but severe lack of spots.. I've heard theres some at Forrest Hill? Whether these are the Birkenhead ones i'm not sure. Woodhill also looks fun?

Hi guys things have changed regarding trails in Auckland  . So i decided to volenteer with the pourewa valley group :o to help out with there project in getting rid of the weeds and pests. I also thought it might be a good idea to propose the idea of dirt jumps to them :sneaky: to give the land some more use. this will complement the new cycleway that will be put in going through the valley :o . That way the area gets more use and the bush can be enjoyed by more people :) . This will hopefully give some under utilised land some use so the resedential areas can't encroach on the natural enviroment :D .

Hey guys.

It's been a couple years since my last post on this forum. So there is a new possibility that a new dirt pump track/dirt jump spot could start and get built. This will be in the pourewa valley witch is located in the Auckland eastern green belt. This place has had pest control and weed control going on for years and years. I segested the idea to the people a bit over 2 years ago and since then it has been left brewing for a good long time. So finally it is looking like something is going to happen in East Auckland. However I have to ask you guys for some support on this cause and would ask if you guys would be interested in doing some volenteer work and building this place.

In my opinion this is a good form of exercise and you can do something positive instead of lifting metal around.

hey, I live right by pourewa valley and the cemetery and would love for some dirt jumps to be built there. I would also very much love to help build them and know at least three definite others who would want to help plus many more friends who are into mountain biking. I've been thinking recently how much of a benefit to the community it would be to have a set of jumps and maybe even a pump track for people to progress on if there's space.
