Rameka, around Kaiteri, Flara saddle, Ngatimoti (even has a pump track !) The camp ground is only 5 mins walk from town but you wouldn't know it. Great for the kids and safe.

I concur ... sorted this years site last week.

Same here.

If you're not too busy sunning yourself I have a large van and trailer with a driver willing to come and pick us up from Takaka after we do the Rameka if you're keen ! PM me your details and when you are up there if you're up to a couple of group rides (there's about 5 of us). Can't wait.

A little bit further off the beaten track, but Gisborne or Opotiki?
There's also a place near Matata with an ocean beach - It's more of a DOC camp ground though.

We have been to Tirohanga near Opotiki for the last few years, but the owners are trying to sell it off.

I see your problem then, - didn't realize which camp ground was closing down.
it's a pretty good part of the country, I went down there for the first time over new years at the start of the year.

I used to stay at the camp ground with my first campervan. It had 240V plug in so it was convenient to stay at campgrouds.
Then I bought another van which I fitted with solar panel instead and became off gridder :D

Now I freedom camp everywhere and stay on beaches, mountains, or anywhere my freedom takes me.
In the process I have written a NZ Vancamping guidebook which needs updating to 2nd edition when I have time.

Doesn't need to, he's solar-powered.

Emptying my portable toilet into a dumping station once a week! 20 litre waste tank on my portable toilet. You do the math how many times I poop on that volume

Always irks me when people living in houses starts blaming us environmentally friendly, low carbon footprint motor home people for polluting!

How much resources does you use for heating your house?
What about that big screen TV, how much power does that use?
One reason for me living in my motorhome is that I can not afford to live comfortably in those glorified tents they call houses in New Zealand. They keep most of the rain and wind away but heating costs too much.
