Camp Fires

Postby tui56 on Tue 7/Jul/09 9:47am

Hi, I want to take one of my kids camping soon, before the end of winter. I wondered if anyone could recommend any places in north Canterbury where we would be allowed to cook on an open fire and generally act like cave men!

Wooded Gully and Grey River are 2 DOC operated Camp sites. They will have a fee of about $5 a night, and there will be a toilet...

I would say that there will not be fire restrictions on at the moment, but good luck finding some wood dry enough to burn!!

We've taken the kids over to Pigeon Bay a couple of times. Toilets but no power, right on the water and have cooked on the beach before. Good times.

Little Akaloa has an acceptible campground, about 5 mins walk from beach, where you could do a fire below the hightide mark (obviously, not at hightide... )
