Zebra Ilinks Thread (previously Thread Just About Fatness)

Postby harlansmart on Thu 26/Aug/10 9:48am

Kids, long time... need to ride again but have 1 problem - cranks ain't connected to the back wheel :p

Anyone got a line on someone local who'll have joining links suitable/appropriate for SR11 chain.... advice would be appreciated... as an aside there is, if anyones interested, a Titanium frame on TM, specially prepared 6/4 tubes and specially welded up by someone who moved to Seven when they started... has now been given in-correct sticker set :( :hmmm: but I recongise it and in any case it has the original riders nick name engraved in the thing - see the king headset... dunno what Merlin/Seven would charge to set up the stay for a caliper and there'd be some postage too.

Alright - need to stop the increase of weight - need joining link - if you got one will also give you a Doz. Heini's - Kia Kaha,

Does anyone know where I can get the joining link - just wanting to join up the 2 flappin' ends of this SR11 chain?

Cheers in advance,

Hman

I didn't think Campagnolo used joining links. Could that be why you haven't got an answer?

Not that I really know though, I've still got 8-speed.

Nah they haven't ever offered a Campy marked 'Master Link' - that's coz they're like Microsoft and want to be rich... I have always used Master Links however makes cleaning the chain a doddle and the fact the lastest 11s Campy tool is over a hundy makes me puke.

Go 8sp I should have kept it.

EEEzzzz sifter,

How's the angle of hang mate???

Yeah, gonna ressurect the body just in time... have gotten unbelievably revoltingly disgustingly FAT over the last 10 months... spent 2 months sailing then the last 8 months drinking and worse..... yeah, I am not 100% positive if the KMC 10sp Master Links I have here are totally sweet on the SR11... they're probably a teeny weenie bit wide so there'll be a touch of floatiness in the set-up.

Someone must know surely???

Sorry Harlan, I am pretty sure no one makes a way to join an 11sp chain yet apart from Campagnolo! I'd personally be reluctant to use a 10sp link in case the slight extra width causes the chain to hook up on the adjacent cog at a bad time, potentially assploding your chain and dumping you hard.

Nice to see you though. :)

Oli, jeezerz mate, have you had plastic surgery (I'm looking at the pic in your bios thingymijiggy) - ok, cool... I know a lot of peoiple are running the old 10sp Master Links but just thought if there WAS a 11sp specific offering I'd go for it... I see on WW some outfit IS making 11sp Chains w/ Master LInks but I can;t find the source (should have got to the EXPO I guess).... as I undertsnad the issue is not 'chain to hook up on the adjacent cog ' rather increased play causing wear.

Need to get going before I hit 100kgs of pure FAT.

KMC make them, not sure how to get hold of them though.

Cheers man... thing is I don't even like the idea of regression, using a non-replaceable pin seems, is, silly when a master link is proved the money shot. I'm gonna use a 10sp KMC Missing LInk like the rest of the world and watch out for wear where there's play.

Astonished no one has any idea... like XCrazy says KMC and others also, supposedly offer the 11sp Chain w/ Master LInk but they don't know themselves if they do and no one has said 'Whats your VISA Number Harlan'?

My problem is that as a small business I've only so far serviced a few 11sp bikes, and haven't needed to replace drive parts on any of them yet. Sometimes it's hard to know the issues before you've actually needed to deal with them.

Oli,

You just proved to me your business will grow. The 2 big name shops I phoned did not have a clue.

Cheers,

Hman

PS - before someone asks I have emailed FWB and KMC about the Master LInks supposedly supplied with the X11SL but havn't heard anything and that was weeks ago... I am suspecting there were problems with the production run... maybe someone else knows something... anyway, will be using the KMC10sp Master Link by next week... need to find a seat (with padding) - the cONE30 would give me a sore one I think.
