Tb: Wtp's Snail Trail Dig Thread.

Postby Wainui Trail Project on Tue 3/Feb/09 9:53pm

Brought to you by Jim.

Snail Trail is a new easy XC oriented downhill project starting from just above the current Jungles/ Labyrinth intersection.

Snail Trail will be an easy XC style downhill track, and with a length of over 900 metres, long enough to put a big smile on the dial. This trail is aimed at beginners or those wanting to increase their confidence, though I'm sure more experienced riders will also enjoy it.

The first dig will be on Sunday the 15t of February
Meet at the gate at the top of the Wainui hill at 10:00am or listen for the sounds of digging and sawing as you head up Labyrinth.

Good stuff, Jim! If things pan out family-wise this would be a great way to break my Wainui cherry...

...not counting Carolyn in 1987, that is.

Snail trail is the working name, this might yet get changed later in the build or once completed.

Most of the first dig will be clearing and widening an existing benched track.

How easy are we talking? XC easy or DH easy?

It will be an easier XC downhill to give those not so confident on Spoonhill/491 a way back down. Having said that it will have a few features to help boost peoples downhill skills.

Wahoo - we are pretty lucky with the amount track in Wellington.

But there is currently a big gap between raw beginner riding the Hutt River trail, Rumituka Incline or out to the coast from Eastbourne and the typical narrow (often steep) singletrack that we are spoilt with.

Lazy Fern helped to fill that gap when it was finished in late '07. This will be another valuable addition to Wellington track networks.

I met her a few times, after the show had aired. She hung out with all her wainui scrubber mates at the Angus Inn most Friday nights
